Question: Does a "Celebrity Endorsement" of a product affect ur decision 2 purchase it?

This question came 2 mind while I was viewing another thread.

Are you more likely to buy a product because a celebrity endorses it? Avon just announced that Keri Hilson will be featured as one of the spokesmodels for one of their upcoming sents. Avon has also used Patrick Dempsey, Reese Witherspoon, Zoe Saldana, and Mario Lopez to promote items. For me, I think it catches ur attention if a particular person is the spokesperson for a product, but if the product sucks, then I wouldn't buy it again.

What are ur thoughts?

Honestly? It used to be.

When I saw that commercial of Pizza hut with Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista back in the 90s, pizza never looked so damn good, and I HATE pizza hut lol

No. I don't think I ever bought or wanted to buy something just because some celebrity promoted it.

I know what u mean. I'm not a fan of Pepsi and I was drinking that stuff growing up because Ray Charles was singing a catchy theme song.

That's the whole reason for this:

Tiger Woods was still the #1 golfer in the world when he returned to the Masters (finishing fourth), yet Nike didn't make a commercial that said one single thing about his golfing ability.

They made a commercial that was an apology and designed to redeem Tiger Woods as a person in the eyes of the golfing world.

The only reason Nike would spend the kind of money it took to do that is that a spokesperson's moral authority IS important in marketing.

Now, me personally? Of course - if it's something specific that I use and that the celebrity endorsing it can show that it played a part in the success achieved by that celebrity.

Avon is a great example. If they choose a celebrity that has great skin, and that celebrity says that Avon's products are instrumental in developing and keeping that great skin, and great skin is something important to me, then of course I'd give them a shot.

Really? Not a food item? Not a piece of exercise equipment? Not a drink? Nothing?

No, simply because I can't think of one thing I purchased because of a celeb endorsement - even when I was a kid.

Only so much as the celebrity might hold my attention long enough to watch the ad and receive information on the product. Which I think is the actual point of it... not so much the "testimony" of the celeb.

If they endorse something they know about, yeah.

I do care what overdrive pedal my favorite guitar player uses. I would buy a golf club endorsed by Tiger Woods (but he has to actually use it) if I cared about my golf game.

As Anx once said, the reverse can be true, as he knows to avoid any food product with rachel ray's face on it

I fucking love Rachel Ray!!! falloff

But in all seriousness it would never sell a product to me, but depending on the celeb, could deter me from the product.

For example, 3121 Perfume? I would never buy that. Wait... I'm sorry, that one wasn't exactly promoted.

Either the orgers are completely different from the rest of the world, or most of y'all aren't being completely honest.

I'm serious.

A celebrity endorsing a product has NEVER influenced me to buy nor pay attention to it, ever.

But certain celebes have turned me off of products. MJ creeped me out for ages with Pepsi.

What if I endorsed something?

You'd run right out and buy 10 of them immediately, wouldn't you?

WOULDN'T YOU????

Of course, of course. But that's because I like you--not because you're famous.

In some small way, I'd like to think I had something to do with your selection of the endorsed product. touched

This sort of thing did matter when I was high school; not now. But while I'm not so influenced by certain personalities pushing a brand, I do find myself susceptible to more general lifestyle branding of some things. I try to keep myself in check there, but not always successfully.

The only time I've gravitated toward a product is when MJ and Lionel were endorsing Pepsi. Of course I was 16 at the time too.

Otherwise, no.

And gheez, all that Avon talk, you act as though you have some big investment in Avon. wink

Well it has the opposite effect on me.

I love Ciroc...But will not buy it anymore because Puff and his buffonery endorse it. I liked it when it first came out, then his lame ass was all in the commercials and was like DAMN, another product I can't consume.

I won't buy any J-Lo shit...just because that heifer's name is on it, period.

Not consciously no. I can't think of any specific products I've bought because of celebrity endorsement but I'm sure on some level they have influenced my choices at some time or other. Like others have said, I may consciously avoid a product based on the celebrity endorsing it though. lol
