I should be getting a new TV I have a small tube TV set which I've been using for over the last ten years, and because of more recent circumstances due to work (and lack of it), I have not been able to purchase a brand new TV set with HDTV and such. Well, now that I finally have a stable job for the first time in about five years, I now have money to spend on a few small luxuries. [Edited 5/31/10 6:30am]

Save your money until you know what you really want.
My birthday was last week. One of the things my sweetie wanted to get for me was a new flat screen TV. I said, "That's nice, honey - but what do I do with my current TV, which works perfectly fine and is appropriate for what I like to watch, but is too big to put in either of my bedrooms?"
I don't know what it is with guys and TVs (and other electronics). I honestly couldn't care less what kind of TV I have. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Huh?
Yes, I know what that phrase means. Just not sure how it applies in this case. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Sorry. Didn't see your response.

I love my flatscreen. I only bought a 27 in so I could hook it up to my desktop. You really do not need cable if you hook up your tv to your computer. I love them because the pic is so clear and they are so light that I can pick it up with one hand. Even the 52 inch models are not that heavy.
I still have an older model too that has to be lifted my my son to move it. I hate it but I'll keep it until it blows. "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack

I'm not a tech-geek so I usually wait for technology to get old (and cheap) before buying into it.
We finally decided to trade in our 27-inch tube TV (given to us for our wedding 14 years ago!!!) for a nice flatscreen. I looked around and compared prices & such.
If you're not into having the latest-&-greatest, then check out the web.
I got a REALLY good deal at (of all places) DELL.com.
Price was better than Wal-Mart (be careful with them) and by using a Dell account, we got free shipping and no payments for 12 months.
The trick is to decide what you want (go to Best Buy first and pick their brains if you are clueless...that's what we did) and then shop around & compare. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

So I'm a pig because I'm not interested in a new television? Nice. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I have a wonderful 37" Vizio ECO friendly TV. It was over $500 at Christmas at Target, but Ultimate Electronics (and probably other places would price match with an ad paper) had it for $499 in the store.
It has 3 HDMI, 2 Component, 2 A/V, VGA input, S-Video, and it's spectacular. I love it. We're Vizio fans around here. Even my BluRay player is a Vizio.

I think I'm picking up that same TV today or tomorrow. I've heard nothing but good things about it.

I was waiting for Ernest to come and speak of his big ass TV; it's so big I can see it and I'm in Chicago!

haha it's only 37". The one in the living room is 47". At Ultimate the other day, we sat in front of an 80". THAT was orgasmic.

I love it. It's a good price too, for $499.

Personally, I believe there is only one thing as important in life as television. And that's ensuring you have enough money for the kind of retirement you'll want.
Does that help any? | |

I do know what it means.
A little tip for you: even a metaphorical swine reference isn't something you want to make where women are concerned. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
