Gay swans nest together at British swannery BY Caitlin O'Connell DAILY NEWS WRITER Wednesday, April 14th 2010, 6:06 PM A pair of homosexual swans have flocked together to nest for the season at Abbotsbury Swannery in Dorset, England. The two male swans have reunited for several consecutive nesting seasons, according to staffers at the Abbotsbury Swannery. "They have been together for several nesting seasons and basically keep territory as if they are a nesting pair," said Dave Wheller, who works at the swannery. The pair are a familiar couple by now, and those who care for the birds report they have yet to show interest in breeding with any female swans at the bird sanctuary. Manager John Houston has observed the devoted couple for many seasons. "The swans have been nesting together like this for several years and they get together every nesting season and form a nest together," Houston said. The two swans are unmistakably male, as the swannery's resident birds are sexed and tagged at birth. Homosexual behavior is common across the animal world.
