Fashion Speed Bumps

Anybody know people who are "stuck" in a certain era with the clothes they wear? Seems to me, especially women in their 40s and 50s have decided that a particular decade was their highlight, and it's reflected in the clothing they choose to wear! Bright purple blouses with leggings, scrunched socks (with the pant legs tucked in, ugh!), big ugly earrings, big pouffy hair...

I know the 80s are back again (although as usual with some modern touches thrown in), but it's obvious these people never left it!

Do you know people like this? eek

This may not count, because she is actually in her sixties, but Lleena still wears the same fashions from when she was a kid growing up in the forties! disbelief

I haven't seen it so much with clothing, but definately with hair.

biggrin

I work in a salon that's been open for 35 years. There are ladies there who still get their hair permed, set in rollers, placed under a drier, and teased into a style every week.

Sad thing is, many of these ladies would look just awesome with a hairstyle makeover...except they are stuck in their ways, and are terrified of change.

Never said there was anything wrong with it. razz

They love it, actually. Also, they truly enjoy the time spent there. They talk about men... lol They mingle, talk about world/local events, and feel like a tiny community.

Personally, I think women need this type of interaction - well most. biggrin

Hey LaVisHh! I would be your perfect client! I always go to my hairdresser and tell them to do what the hell they want! I have had long hair all chopped off, hundreds of different styles and colours, I am never scared of change in that department, and am thankful that they do experiment on me or I would still have long straight hair down to my bum now! mr.green

IMHO...I think it all depends on the woman personally...I mean some woman change BODY wise after a few years so I think they tend to hang onto whatever they have left be it hair, make-up use...As far as clothing if you are one who can keep up with fashion and lucky enough to keep some youth to you're body than hey, WHY NOT wink .. I do however still wear my hair as I always have sinse school..just down and straight...I do however love to dress nice so I keep in shape and am still able to wear a nice pair of Levi's or claiborne and Hilfiger...without a problem smile

I'm one of the lucky ones in that salon, as I attract a different type of clientele. They do trust me, and I get custom styles, colors, and cuts. I can do roller-sets, but let me state for the record - to do them well enough to last a week! Not me! lol

hehe... well then, perhaps I should REALLY make it part of my weekly ritual... maybe it's time I permed this straight hair of mine!

eek ... on second thought, I don't think it would be a good look on me at all!

But whatever gets you by eh?!

Edit: So many typo's today! disbelief Well, it is 5am this side, (my excuse)

Don't fret, we are all in agreement that the perm you're currently sporting is an improvement on your former "hairstyle" wink

ahem! This woman is definately not stuck in an era...

To many youngsters around me, they don't allow me to act my age. But not to worry I don't wear hip huggers, or platforms..

what's also funny is that, with today's fashion trends, there will someday be a whole busload of old folks (today's teens) with saggy skin weird tattoos and piercings hidden in the folds of their wrinkled old skin - kinda permanent 'fashion speed bumps'. let's see how well they age big grin
