How the iPhone has made my life, like, way more awesome!

Every night, before turning in, I check the apps on my homescreen (with the exception of the iPod):

01. SpeakEasy (Voice memo app that I prefer to the iPhone's native): Did I record any notes-to-self, today? I always leave this app up, in the car.

02. Notes: Any written notes (sometimes you're somewhere you don't wanna be talkin')?

03. Photos: Did I snap any photos or record any vids, today (i.e. any "shorthand notes")?

04. Phone: Any voicemails? If so, hopefully I can reply via email or text (I hate talking on the phone).

05. Messages Any texts? Despite my intial resistance to 'em, I now find this is my preferred method of communication. Short 'n' sweet. smile

06. Mail: Self-explanatory.

07. Google Calendar: Any appointments tomorrow? I live my life by Google Calendar. Use it on my iPhone; use it on my desktop. Love, love, love it!

08. Weather: This is more of a winter thing ('Is there gonna be any fucked-up weather tomorrow that's gonna necessitate leaving earlier for shit?')

09. Clock: Set alarms for tomorrow.

10. Settings: See where I'm at in my data-plan usage.

11. Wellness: Trying to take an asprin per day.

12. Pocket Tunes (radio app): Mainly use it to record The Howard Stern Show. Listen to the parts of the show I missed that day, on the speaker. smile

Currently on my iPod (in addition to some music):

Dirty Work (Norm MacDonald movie)
The Love Guru
Whatever Works (Woody Allen flick, with Larry David)
Michael Richards Show episode "Simplification"
Recent Howard Stern interview on CBS' The Early Show
Kathy Griffin on Larry King
"Waitin' on a Sunny Day (Live)" - Bruce Springsteen
"Black Hearted Love" - There's a dearth of PJ Harvey vids on iTunes.
"Celebration" - freebie Madonna vid.

Real Time with Bill Maher podcasts
Adam Carolla podcasts

Do you have an iPhone, iPod Touch or other smartphone? How do you use it?

Just joined Facebook so I occasionally use that app.
Pop onto twitter to follow a handful of celebs
I use it for email and SMS
I have Squeezebox stuff around the house so use the iPeng app which is very good
Weather of course (in the UK we are obbessed)
and I've started to use a little bit of GTD for my tasks etc so check / add to my lists via a great little app called 'Todo'

I use google for mail and calendar but not the seperate app - will check this out.

iPod Touch

I do love it!

I check my bank account easily
I read on the Kindle app all the time
Check email (helpful with the job hunt)
I bookmark and put web pages on the home screen for quick access (yes, there is org with the big purple P)
Listen to music and relaxation
Games
Facebook

I was gonna pawn the fucker but realized I actually do need it!

I also love my phone-Nokia 5800-superior for calling, but is lagging behind the iPhone but I do use it for a lot of the above except reading. I do like that I can use my nail (better control) for Nokia over my fingerpad (but Touch is faster to respond). I have little fingers and still can't hit what I want on the Touch, lol.

What's "Squeezebox" and "iPeng"?

and I've started to use a little bit of GTD

"GTD"?

Just sign in to your calendar via your iPhone and it'll prompt you to add it to your homescreen.

I do that with certain websites, too (but I keep my main homescreen uncluttered).

Really? I find it's accuracy impressive.

Yes. It's called Being Prince.

for Ace:

Squeezebox is a multi-room streaming sound system, like sonus but cheaper and less reliable. The iPeng app controls what you are listening to and where.

GTD = Getting Things Done, it's quite a nice and very simple way of organising everything.

Cheers for the tip of google cal - will check it out.

I don't think there're any plugs at play. Just some very skillful Dippity-Do work. razz

With today's news that I won't be able to upgrade my 3G to OS 4.0, I am done with Apple. I'm gonna jailbreak and use the 3G for as long as it is useful and then I am going Android.

I readthat it was only the 2g that couldn't handle the new OS... which sounds super awesome BTW

I think the 3G can get some new features, but not multitasking, the only one that matters. I have to jailbreak to get multitasking.

From what I read, only the 3GS (and 3rd-gen Touch) will be able to upgrade to multitasking.

Technically not an app. When you sign in to your acct. via iPhone, it asks you if you want to put a shortcut on your desktop.

My iPhone recently went berserk on me, so I had to reset everything on it. And unfortunately just days before, my daughter killed my laptop with strawberry milk. So I lost all my acquired and synched apps. confused I'm currently rebuilding.

I actually haven't used my iPhone a ton. And because the only person who ever calls me is my wife -- and we can communicate remotely and for free via email -- I only occasionally even use it as a phone. But I do like the thing, and some of my favorite applications were/are...

Shazam - Identifies ambient music, allowing you to find it again, research it, buy it, etc.
Navigon - North American road navigation system
NRSV Bible with Apocrypha - Beats toting around a big, heavy reference Bible
Around Me - Identifies cool places in your vicinity based on searchable categories
Hear Planet - Uses the GPS function to detect exactly where you're standing... and gives you researched info about it
Bubble Twrrrl - A game where you shoot single marbles at a big spinning mass of marbles. If you align 3 of the same color, those marbles disappear, and if the whole mass disappears, you win! If you don't successfully align the colors, they eventually multiply until the mass explodes on your screen. Very addictive. geek

Right.

Which makes no sense to me. I't would work on the 3G, maybe not as fast as on the 3Gs, but it would work. Apple is just cutting us out, begging for us to jailbreak our phones and stop using the app store. I don't get it.

I'm technologically challenged and don't generally keep up with the latest gizmos and gadgets. Until now, I didn't text or take pictures or anything on a phone. That said, I got an iPhone a couple of weeks ago. I really thought I'd be "eh" about it, but I'm surprised at how much I love that little contraption. It's awesomely awesome.
