One, you don't fuck that many women and your spouse doesn't know about it.

Two, who gives a damn? Are your lives that screwed up that you need to participate in constantly shaming of someone who is no part of your life but through media? falloff What skeletons are you hiding?
[Edited 4/8/10 11:09am]

You generally get it, but in this case have totally swung and missed. The discussion isn't about any "poor children" it is about which image someone created for themselves.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

When you take money for this:

You are creating an image of yourself.

How is that different from Michael Jordan? He caught more tail than Tiger, but didn't catch the flack Tiger did.

It's not any different than Jordan. I would guess it's because Mike got caught AFTER the height of his career. Nobody was really watching when it all came out on him.

Now people are thinking I'm saying Tiger needs to be some sort of role model. Not so. I don't give a shit what he does, I'm just saying he created the image and without that, this would not have been as big as it was for most people.

Ya, while golfing...its about golf and being a great golfer and nothing more.

And I am a parent of a young son, if he adored Tiger and golf...I would be totally fine with that - still...because he would be taught that it's about his golf game and nothing more.

Plus, my son would know NOTHING about his extramarital affairs just like I keep him away from all that kind of garbage tabloid news.

Erin, if you are successful at keeping him away from that, please tell us all your secret.

Upon further reflection, you might want to tell him about this kind of stuff right up front. Because kids will choose their own heroes.

So what would you tell your son if he chose Tiger Woods as his hero, and then found out about all this stuff?

I've found it's best to tell the kids that heroes are great but they are human and if they've done stuff that's wrong, the kids need to know before they invest their little hearts and souls into them.
[Edited 4/8/10 11:03am]

I have 100% control of what he watches on tv or hears on the radio. Remember, he's only 4...it's not like his school mates are having water cool talk about Tiger and his indiscretions. lol

But as he gets older, you're right...he will choose heroes on his own and so he should...but he'll also have a good understanding (directly from me) that heroes do come flawed and are really no better people than anyone else...they are just good at specific things...and it's ok to look up to them for those specific things.

I really don't see how providing guidance to your kid like this is so difficult.

If you allow your kids to think some people are super human (which is totally ridiculous), then yes, your kids are destined for heartbreak at some point.

Stark: Working with younger kids, why is that so important to you?

Woods: It's more gratifying than anything else. It's more gratifying than winning golf tournaments. I would much rather be remembered for that, for influencing kids, than winning the golf tournaments. I love winning golf tournaments for me, for my own personal satisfaction. But I tell you what, the satisfaction you get from helping others far outweighs that.

Ya, inspiring kids to be great athletes...until I hear something about him saying he was a role model in terms of his off course behaviour, like Jason said, that perfect image is the public's doing, not his.

and here's where we agree...both of my kids have an understanding that even those you put the most faith in can let you down or disappoint you...it's not a hard lesson to teach...and its way easier to prepare kids for disappointment than basically setting them up for it by allowing them to blindly idolize people that they really know very little about....

What We Do

At the Tiger Woods Foundation, we believe in a new generation of bold, courageous youth. We inspire new perspectives and limitless possibilities. We provide opportunities to Be Someone.

Since its inception in 1996 by Tiger Woods and his father, Earl, the Tiger Woods Foundation has reached millions of young people by delivering unique experiences and innovative educational opportunities for youth worldwide. What began as simply a dream to provide young people with opportunities and the tools needed to achieve a bright future has grown into a global organization that has served young people around the world.

Our programs include the Tiger Woods Learning Center, a one-of-a-kind educational facility custom-built for the underserved youth of Southern California; Tiger's Action Plan, nationwide curricula based on goal-setting, career exploration and self-discovery through service learning; and the Earl Woods Scholarship program, which offers a four-year college scholarship to hard-working students with demonstrated financial need and proven commitment to community service.

Through our events and programs, the Foundation is making a positive, lasting impact on many young lives and we're very proud of these confident and inspired young people.

If y'all think marketers choose spokespeople based solely on their professional achievement and could not care less about their personal lives and actions, then y'all are sorely misled about advertising.

No, they choose them by what the public thinks about them - and it's often just the publics’ ignorant perception of a person simply through their professional achievements.

Marketers don't really give a fuck about a person's personal life...they only start to care when the public cries foul.

Celebrities?? Give me a break, your average shmuck cheats as well. I just think that celebs get caught easier and then the whole world knows about it.

that's my point.

why should we care if he cheated? He didn't cheat on us.

Lots of people do it. Why is it such a HUGE scandal?

This is a commercial by NIKE. NIKE is not a doctor or therapist or charitable entity. It's a shoe company. This isn't about Tiger Woods or a father son relationship or character trangressions or the human soul. This is about NIKE trying to sell you their shoes by appropriating elements of life and trying to align themselves with it. To have you give them money and respect.
