I Love You Phillip Morris - recommend it I saw this movie tonight, having barely seen the trailer, just knowing very basic plot details and the fact that Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor play gay guys in the movie.
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this movie. This is not a typical Hollywood comedy in any way - even though it's advertised as a comedy it's more like a mixture of comedy and drama. It's based on the true story of Texas con artist Steven Jay Russell. I must admit that the visual of Jim Carrey in one scene "topping" some guy was quite a surprise but then again this is not your average Hollywood portrayal of gay relationships. I actually learned thru IMDB that the movie hasn't even been released yet in the US, although it has been shown at film festivals. But anyway - I know that it's been released in many European countries and I think it will get a proper US debut a month from now, so if it's showing in your area, I'd recommend seeing it. They apparently had trouble finding a distributor in the US because of the gay content. I first posted the trailer that is being used to promote the planned US release and then I found the European trailer and noticed how the US trailer is very much censored in comparison, so I edited to insert the trailer that is a more accurate description of what the movie is about.

I've heard a lot of good things about this flick. Can't wait until it comes to town here. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I noticed that the film length is 102 minutes here in Iceland but is 97 minutes in the UK. This indicates that something might have been cut from the UK (and probably US) version of the film.
Still the film is rated 12 over here but rated 15 in the UK. But perhaps they have stricter standards in the UK when it comes to sex and "bad language".
