This show, in my opinion, was one of the best to introduce many complex dilemmas which are usually left in the realm of literature. Many of the classic themes were introduced in an entertaining way about life, spirituality, etc. in an Anne Rice sort of way--who is my standard for this type of thing (although a professor I had in college who taught Anne Rice would disagree!). The show started out as a campy spin-off of the movie and later developed a wicked sense of humor...and, at the end, got even darker and more compelling with the characters so much so that you couldn't wait to see what happened next! The only show subsequently that affected me in this way was The Sopranos! I haven't seen anything about it...but I think Anne Rice would like where this series dared to go...like she did in her novels! Thumbs Up! smile

That would make sense, as Joss & Co certainly owe a debt of gratitude to Ms. Rice for her influence. I doubt Spike and Angel would even exist, for example, without Louis and Lestat to use as templates.

Thank you! Although "Interview With The Vampire" was great, "The Vampire Lestat" was outstanding! I had one of Rice's professors for a lit class and he actually told us that he had never read one of her novels and refused to do so! He also told us that he had her in a "counseling" session and Anne Rice told him that she was going to "write her way out of this place!" I have used that as my mantra for going through all my classes at the same university. Cheers to you, Anne Rice--my heroine, in so many ways! wink

I just got aquainted with Buffy in the past couple of months.

boxed I know

All my favorite vampire stuff was on hiatus and I needed something to fill the void so I started watching Buffy on LOGO.

It's a great show. Not my favorite, but it's great. Problem is they keep showing them all out of order so I get confused. Not that it's difficult to confuse me...really I don't need any help there.

So as of this point I haven't seen any of the BIG moments. I've been thinking about getting the dvds to see them in order.

I'd recommend that. Buffy mostly has a linear plot so it can get confusing if you don't watch the episodes in order.

I don't know how to feel about most of the current crop of vampire fare. Twilight is complete and utter bullshit, and Vampire Diaries is sort of a weak cross between Buffy and Twilight. True Blood seems pretty good but I've only seen a few episodes so I haven't had the chance to really get into it yet. I do enjoy that vampire Bill isn't as conventionally attractive as a lot of series' lead vampire characters. I don't know if that was deliberate casting or not, but it's nice to see a regular looking guy as the undead.

It was a little of both I think. In the Sookie Stackhouse series (books True Blood is based on) because the vampires have "come out of the coffin" they are a little more "human", so yes, being vampires makes them more beautiful, but they are very much individuals so if they weren't a great looking human, they're not a dazzling vampire. If they were stupid as a human, they're not the smartest vampire. If they were sociopaths as a human, they are really dangerous as a vampire etc. For me, it's part of what makes the series fun to read. They're vampires so they could kill you without thinking twice about it, but each vamp is different and brings their own personality to the story.

Also a big Buffy fan. Everybody knew to not even THINK about calling me when it was on. talk to the hand
I own all seasons of the DVD (and the original movie giggle), and of Angel.

I'm up for any discussion on the shows! woot!

I've been watching Vampire Diaries... it's like Dawson's Creek with vampires, but True Blood is on hiatus and I never even made it thru the first hour of that glittery, gelled emo "Twilight" bullshit. rolleyes

One of my all-time favorite movie scenes ever is when Paul Reubens dies in the original Buffy movie.

Great stuff! I love that movie. It's so stupid it's funny! lol

Did anyone notice during the basketball game when the vampire is terrorizing the player, that it's Ben Affleck? He doesn't even have his name in the credits! biggrin

Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."
