I can't believe they're playing it on LOGO! The things I miss by not having cable...

logo has some good stuff, but are still very new. there's a lot of filler.

Big buffy fan here. wave

I love it all of course, but season 6 has a special place in my heart. I think most Buffy fans think it was a weird season overall but it's my favorite. This is followed by season 5, then season 3.

I also think season 4 has some really great standalone episodes, despite me really hating the whole initiative/Adam plotline.

totally agree. i have never understoof why people diss the 6th season. i thought it was increible, and arguably the best. it's a little chaotic, but it's a reflection of how chaotic their lives have become.

adam was the lamest big bad, and the initiative got a bit silly.

I loved the fact that the monsters treated Halloween like a total joke.

Season 3 is my favorite, All cause of Faith. Loved the father/daughter relationshop between Buffy n Giles. Hell I even liked the nerds. Though hands down my favorite is "I've gone Pro" Willow.

3 is the last year of HS? that was a great one. faith and the mayor were fantastic as bad daddy/daughter, as were the good father/daughter mix of giles and buffy

I always loved Oz, but looking back on the show now I really feel Seth Green was underused in the role. He's not a main character by any means, but the writers could have done so much with him. Some episodes all he got to do was tell Willow she was cute. confused

Seriously, kids. Seth Green as a werewolf who plays lead guitar in a band? That should have been a goldmine for fascinating and fun character development and IMO the writers squandered the opportunity. It feels like they introduced him just so Willow could have a love interest but then didn't really know what to do with him.

I never liked Oz, never liked it when they were in high school, I found the show just boring. Then all of a sudden it took off and became one of the best shows I've ever seen.

I don't hate the high school years but I think it was best after they graduated. In some ways the change in tone and style was such that it felt like two different series.

Ummm I love the hell outta some buffy!! I own all the seasons on dvd along with angel and the movie!! ive been to 3 buffy conventions and they were one of the best and coolest experiences of my life!!! wink I'm truly a hardcore fan to me nothing tops that show nothing!! my favorite episode ever is season 5 episode 7 "fool for love" boy did I just fall in love with spike because of that episode made me realize what a softie he truly was inside... (sighs) as for the whole spike loves buffy deal (best decision joss ever made) I called it in season 2

I am totally pro buffy and spike ( dont get me wrong I love me some angel but hes just sooooo predictable and whiny) IT's his nancy boy hair gel that he likes so much lol

well im off "quickly to the angel mobile awayyyyy"

I don't push for Buffy and Spike, and I don't push for Buffy and Angel.

I push for Spike and Angel.

are you reading the season 8 comics? the nevest TPB has a buffy dream where you see spike and angel about to make out and then reaction from the others.

I'm about halfway through season 3 now with the roomie. I'm itching to talk about the show properly but I can't with her because it's all new to her and I don't want to ruin anything! I'm afraid I've accidentally spilled too much in my excitement as it is.

no matter what refuse to deny or confirm on everything. that show only works well if you work through it step by step.

You totally have to see it in order! The great thing about the show is that it has a sense of humor. At first, it is campy like the original movie, and then later in the series it gets darker and more ironic... Like I said previously, the two years before the last year grabbed the hell out of me! And I am really hard to please! I set my standards by Anne Rice novels...and Buffy measured up big time! I want to see that musical again! Guess I'll have to buy it...sigh!

Regarding the Spike/Buffy arc: I know she's the hero of the show and we're clearly supposed to identify and empathise with her plight. And I know that it's an unhealthy, toxic relationship for both characters on so many levels.

But I can't help but feel for Spike more because I've been there; I've been treated more or less exactly like that. I just want to give the poor bastard a hug whenever one of their more contentious scenes come on and she's busy telling him he's a thing and that he's beneath her.

Have your own personal lives or relationships ever coloured how you viewed the way the characters interact with each other?
[Edited 4/2/10 13:47pm]

i actually think the spike/bufster relationship is more interesting with any of the others she had on the show. he's like angel, but not as swoony. and whatever the agent guy was was boring.

It was definitely interesting, and I have to give the writers a lot of credit for switching up so well what could have ended up as a lame rehash or as B'Angel 2.0.

Doesn't stop me from wanting to smack Buffy when I watch some of that though. lol

I mean, the woman has seen proof before that vampires and demons aren't devoid of individual personality and emotion. They may be evil, but she knows they're sentient beings with feelings. And I know a lot of her behaviour is supposed to be stemming from fear and anger and frustration, but Jesus! Spike may not be human or even had his soul yet at that point, but how dehumanizing is it to be told point blank that you're a thing; to not even be acknowledged as (something of a) person? Constantly?

She ended up as a much more well-rounded and better written character than poor Oz ever got the chance to be.

i agree, but i think they were doing so in a way to subtley point out what you are saying.

for all people wrote it off as a frivilous little show, it makes some of the most compelling arguments for tolerance, acceptance, and looking beyond the prejudgement, among many other lessons.

it really is an incredible show that way. i always argue that it is one of the most brilliant and accessible pieces of feminist art i have ever seen.

One of my favourite things about the show has been and will probably always be it's shades-of-grey approach to morality. For all certain characters -annoyingly often, Buffy, for instance -treat good and evil as seperate and easily definable things one of the core messages of the show was that it's just Not That Simple.

An evil person can be noble and kind and fall in love, and a good person can be petty and cruel and even murderous.

As for the feminist thing? I know I'm not the only one who was genuinely surprised when I found out that Joss Whedon is a man. He tackles the issue with surprising finesse and grace, something few men -of those few that try at all -accomplish. Bless Joss. thumbs up!

This show, in my opinion, was one of the best to introduce many complex dilemmas which are usually left in the realm of literature. Many of the classic themes were introduced in an entertaining way about life, spirituality, etc. in an Anne Rice sort of way--who is my standard for this type of thing (although a professor I had in college who taught Anne Rice would disagree!). The show started out as a campy spin-off of the movie and later developed a wicked sense of humor...and, at the end, got even darker and more compelling with the characters so much so that you couldn't wait to see what happened next! The only show subsequently that affected me in this way was The Sopranos! I haven't seen anything about it...but I think Anne Rice would like where this series dared to go...like she did in her novels! Thumbs Up! smile

That would make sense, as Joss & Co certainly owe a debt of gratitude to Ms. Rice for her influence. I doubt Spike and Angel would even exist, for example, without Louis and Lestat to use as templates.
