BUFFY FANS! Let's have a conversation

I have been buying seasons of that glorious, glorious piece of pop culture on DVD. Finally, I know! This came about when I discovered the roommate had somehow never seen a single episode, so I've been introducing the two of them and now she's becoming a devoted fan while I've been getting reacquainted with all that Buffaliciousness. woot!

So now I feel inclined to talk about it. Let's start up a thread!

Love it? Hate it? Best seasons/episodes?

Share your thoughts, kids.

Regarding the Spike/Buffy arc: I know she's the hero of the show and we're clearly supposed to identify and empathise with her plight. And I know that it's an unhealthy, toxic relationship for both characters on so many levels.

But I can't help but feel for Spike more because I've been there; I've been treated more or less exactly like that. I just want to give the poor bastard a hug whenever one of their more contentious scenes come on and she's busy telling him he's a thing and that he's beneath her.

Have your own personal lives or relationships ever coloured how you viewed the way the characters interact with each other?

I just got aquainted with Buffy in the past couple of months.

boxed I know

All my favorite vampire stuff was on hiatus and I needed something to fill the void so I started watching Buffy on LOGO.

It's a great show. Not my favorite, but it's great. Problem is they keep showing them all out of order so I get confused. Not that it's difficult to confuse me...really I don't need any help there.

So as of this point I haven't seen any of the BIG moments. I've been thinking about getting the dvds to see them in order.

I'd recommend that. Buffy mostly has a linear plot so it can get confusing if you don't watch the episodes in order.

I don't know how to feel about most of the current crop of vampire fare. Twilight is complete and utter bullshit, and Vampire Diaries is sort of a weak cross between Buffy and Twilight. True Blood seems pretty good but I've only seen a few episodes so I haven't had the chance to really get into it yet. I do enjoy that vampire Bill isn't as conventionally attractive as a lot of series' lead vampire characters. I don't know if that was deliberate casting or not, but it's nice to see a regular looking guy as the undead.

I always loved Oz, but looking back on the show now I really feel Seth Green was underused in the role. He's not a main character by any means, but the writers could have done so much with him. Some episodes all he got to do was tell Willow she was cute. confused

Seriously, kids. Seth Green as a werewolf who plays lead guitar in a band? That should have been a goldmine for fascinating and fun character development and IMO the writers squandered the opportunity. It feels like they introduced him just so Willow could have a love interest but then didn't really know what to do with him.

I'm about halfway through season 3 now with the roomie. I'm itching to talk about the show properly but I can't with her because it's all new to her and I don't want to ruin anything! I'm afraid I've accidentally spilled too much in my excitement as it is.

Big buffy fan here. wave

I love it all of course, but season 6 has a special place in my heart. I think most Buffy fans think it was a weird season overall but it's my favorite. This is followed by season 5, then season 3.

I also think season 4 has some really great standalone episodes, despite me really hating the whole initiative/Adam plotline.

I loved the fact that the monsters treated Halloween like a total joke.

Season 3 is my favorite, All cause of Faith. Loved the father/daughter relationshop between Buffy n Giles. Hell I even liked the nerds. Though hands down my favorite is "I've gone Pro" Willow.

Also a big Buffy fan. Everybody knew to not even THINK about calling me when it was on. talk to the hand
I own all seasons of the DVD (and the original movie giggle), and of Angel.

I'm up for any discussion on the shows! woot!

I've been watching Vampire Diaries... it's like Dawson's Creek with vampires, but True Blood is on hiatus and I never even made it thru the first hour of that glittery, gelled emo "Twilight" bullshit. rolleyes

The season before the final season was awesome! I couldn't wait for the next episode to come on... You remember! When Willow was out of control! And the sexual chemistry between Buffy and Spike... And Spike's pathos and spiritual conflicts--it was just great TV--right up there with Anne Rice novels! Did the Vampire genre proud, unlike today's Vampire TV shows, movies, and novels...
barf Wish there was a movie re-uniting the cast! wink

I'm so glad I (and a friend of mine) were not the only ones who thought that was one of the sexiest scenes on TV or movies... It turned me on so much I fantasized about it for weeks afterward! I also loved the "musical" they did with Spike and Buffy as the main characters...I wish I could see it again! I was so sad in the final episode when Spike sacrificed himself and said he truly loved Buffy and she didn't return his love... They were hot-hot-hot! Total turn on--better than any porn!sad

Yeah, Angel was all so predictably LA conventionally fine and bland as hell. Spike was not, insecure, full of angst, hubris...and many other nasty classical qualities of an anti-hero! That is why it was so attractive. Don't know why Buffy (the actress) is so anti-Buffy get-back-together these days! I did enjoy seeing Spike again on the Angel series, though! wink

I liked the Initiative plotline, but the Adam thing kind of seemed like an extension of that whole "nerd makes a Frankenstein out of his brother" thing they did in season 2.

Me too. Most don't even bother to leave their homes/tombs/underground lairs for the occasion. Even Spike was apparently just out for a casual stroll when shit went down.

I wish there was too. I think we all do, but we shouldn't be holding our breath for it. Between SMG's apparent desire to leave the whole franchise far in the past, and the fact that the actors who played the vampires aren't getting any younger I doubt it would ever happen.

BUT

They could do a ten-years-after-the-finale reunion or somesuch with the actors, I suppose. That would be kind of cool.

Sex with a vampire? Check.
Sex with Spike? Check.
Sex with your clothes on? Check.
Sex in public? Check.

That was the hotness. horny tonk

And to think, some people actually prefer the abstinence-porn that is Meyer's series. How can any sane person make the argument that a sparkle fairy who wants to wait 'til he's married to his food is hotter than boning Spike in a crowded club? disbelief

I know this cover is a reference to the character Twilight, and not really a reference to those other vampires (probably, anyway. It's hard not to speculate on the naming with this) but who can't love this?

I never liked Oz, never liked it when they were in high school, I found the show just boring. Then all of a sudden it took off and became one of the best shows I've ever seen.

i actually think the spike/bufster relationship is more interesting with any of the others she had on the show. he's like angel, but not as swoony. and whatever the agent guy was was boring.
