Why Detroit Autos suck Seriously...why don't they learn their lessons?
Over a DECADE ago there was (supposedly) a "push" from Detroit automakers to catch up with Japan when it comes to turning their concept cars into production vehicles. The Japanese have proven that with less time & redesign, they could churn out street-ready cars from their fancy concepts. Americans were/are notorious for producing heart-stopping concept cars that generate alot of excitement then either fail to be produced or take so long to be produced with so many redesigns that they cease to be relevant. Now, after lagging behind on the electic vehicle for far too long, GM wowed us with their promised Chevy Volt. Look at that baby! The excitement it generated was enormous. Then, of course, the pencil-pushers get their hands in the mix, and the car goes through redesigns for production. ...and what we will actually be able to buy is something like this; Are you f*king serious? The first Toyota Prius from a DECADE ago was more exciting to look at than that lemon! I mean, really. Why, Detroit...why???? By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

The first car I bought with my own money was a 1982 Buick Skyhawk. I got rid of it in 1985...and haven't driven an American-made car since (unless you count two Hondas that were built in Ohio). We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I love my 2008 Ford Mustang convertible and will put it up against any car on the road.

However, the Buick Skylark was based on the same platform as the Pontiac Grand Am and was a fairly decent car. My first boss had one and it drove great. You just got the wrong bird. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Okay, did you ever look at a 1982 Skylark? I got rid of it in 1985 because I've never had a car longer than three years. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. Back to the topic... ...consider the latest generation of Prius and the soon-to-be-available Nissan Leaf; Does that crappy production-version Volt have ANY chance of making it??? By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

That is not a Buick Skylark. It is a Regal. I'd know those opera windows anywhere. The GNX/Grand National was built on the Regal platform. My mom drove one. Black with a vinyl landau roof and a burgundy interior. (My dad was in the car business. We always got the new models the second they came out.) We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. My understanding is that the original Volt concept was toned down everywhere it could to provide a low cost point and increased highway mileage.
The electric Cadillac is supposed to be closer to the original Concept design. That said... You are DEAD RIGHT on Detroit putting out sweet ass concept cars. The HY-Wire had be DROOLING for a Hydrogen fuel cell. That was so long ago..... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

It's wierd.
American cars normally can't do 'flashy' like Italian or Japanese, nor 'understated elegance' like the Germans. It's like the big-5 didn't bother getting artists into the act. They need Steve Jobs.
