A True American Icon and Legend Died

Eugene Allen, White House butler for 8 presidents, dies at 90

As a butler at the White House, Eugene Allen saw eight presidential administrations come and go.

Eugene Allen, who endured a harsh and segregated upbringing in his native Virginia and went on to work for eight presidents as a White House butler, died March 31 of renal failure at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park. He was 90.

A true American Hero, Icon, Man of Strength and Integrity; this is the true dignity, grace and incomprable style.

You will be missed Mr. Allen.

RIP Mr. Allen--you have gone on to a better place with your Maker and your Ancestors! I wonder--was he ever a consultant on the TV mini-series "Backstairs At The White House?" If you haven't seen it--I advise you to rent, borrow, steal, and watch that series. See you in Heaven, Mr. Allen! Glad you had a long life--hope I do, too!

Not just this guy, but I have nothing but admiration for anyone who can happily be a butler. It's definitely a job that's easier said than done.

The Washington Post did a write up on him and his wife before President Obama's election. She died the night before election day. They were going to go to the poles together. He went alone. May he rest in peace.
