Question about Facebook.

I am a teacher and I was shown profiles of many of my students to invite them as friends. Can someone explain to me how do they know who my pupils are? I don´t keep in touch with them through email and I don´t even mention anyone´s names on the internet.

There are two ways; first, if you just have two of them on there, Facebook's computer will match their lists and see if they have matching friends. Then they suggest these to you.

If you have used friendfinder, and let Facebook gain access to your e-mail's addressbook, they just lift it from there.

Also;

http://www.facebook.com/help/?page=925

Suggestions is a feature that helps you connect with people and Pages you are likely to know, as well as engage with your confirmed friends on Facebook. Facebook calculates Suggestions based on the networks you are a part of, mutual friends, work and education information, contacts imported using the Friend Finder, and many other factors.

You might notice 'many other factors'. Larry Graham, as mentioned before, is part of that.

So. If you have joined a group of your own school, that might be the culprit.

If you're using Facebook to do anything but bitch about the Org, you're doing it wrong.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

If other people have the e-mail you use to sign onto FB in their address book when THEY use Friend Finder, then you get linked.

How do I prevent myself from appearing in Suggestions?
The Suggestions feature was built to connect you with people or Pages...
The Suggestions feature was built to connect you with people or Pages on Facebook that you are likely to know. If you don't want to appear in this box for other people, you can restrict your search privacy settings from the Privacy Settings page under the Settings drop-down menu. You will want to adjust the Search Visibility section so that it is restricted to the kinds of people you want to be able to find you in Search. If you are available in Search to someone, you may appear in their Suggestions section.

If you are a teacher, I would suggest you not "friend" any students. As a matter of fact, you should go to your Principal and run it past him/her. As a parent, I'd be very uncomfortable with an adult friending my teenager especially a teacher. It's inappropriate, imho.

I haven´t befriended any of my pupils and I am trying to avoid them even finding me there. That´s why I am trying to find out how to do that.
