Discrimination!!! Shit like this hasn't happened to me for years - until today...
I was walking through town, feeling a little exasperated and in need of a beer. I went into a small shop to buy a magazine to take with me to read in the nearest bar. I couldn't see what I was looking for, so I asked, "Do you have the Gay Times?" The counter assistant pointed at the chocolate bars in front of him and asked, "Kit-Kat?" I shook my head and responded, "No, not a Kit-Kat. Do you have the Gay Times; the Gay Times magazine?" He looked at me quizzically, scratching his chin - and his reply was... "Sorry, we don't serve queers." 
I walked silently out of the shop, stunned. I just told my sister about this, on the phone - and she laughed!!! 
I'm really annoyed now that I didn't say something back, or at least knock something over on my way out. | |

Yes, it was just a magazine and newspaper store. I think the counter assistant was the owner - you couldn't fit more than one person in there, as it's like a small walk-in wardrobe. No, I didn't buy the Kit-Kat.
I'm not going to picket the store! Maybe I would if they'd had the magazine and then wouldn't sell it me - like gay bait or something. They didn't seem to have any gay magazines, like Attitude, or Out. I noticed the top shelf was stuffed with straight porn though!!! | |

Depending on where you are, consider calling the Better Business Bureau or some comparable body. You might consider also reporting this to any local LGBTQ advocacy group. The owner has some right to run his operation as he sees fit, but you absolutely have a right as a consumer to share your experience and impressions on how he does conduct his operation.
