Has America and Americans as a whole forgotton or neglected the whole concept of what family life is all about????

Are Americans now "too busy" with work and/or too selfish now to take care of elderly and ailing relatives, so, hence, placing them into extortionately expensive Assisted Living Complexes, where they are virtually held as financial prisoners cos these places are raping them of all their savings and income????

Persoanlly, I beleive that Americans now have long forgotten whats the most important things in life, like caring for family, particularly the elderly, and their whole lives are so wrapped up in work and other selfish persuits and that is the main focus in their lives now!!!! Personally, i would give up any work I had to take care of my elderly relatives, cos to me thats more important than any job!!!

Wow. I've never thought of "work" as a selfish pursuit. If I didn't work, I wouldn't be able to survive. Most of us can't live off of no income. Most people work to support themselves and their families.

My son is in the UK, because he didnt want 2 return back 2 the US with us, so he is well looked after by my parents(as he has slight Asperges Syndrome) and he lives in his own bedsit(actually my parents converted their garage into a bedsit efficiency for him with a full kitchen and living space!!). He has his own car and he has his own very close circle of freinds which he didnt want 2 part with 2 return back over here with us!! He is 23 so really he is of an age where he can live independantly if he so chooses!! Because of his condition, I think any drastic change would completely destroy him!!!

Sad really. My mom, born in the US, worked her ass off since she was 16. Always paid her SS, taxes, all of that. She has a genetic heart condition that causes sudden death and kills most ppl with it by the time they turn 20.
