What really annoys me is when in reaction to the ethnic biases, many men of color sell themselves as "mixed with Italian, Irish, yada yada yada..." to make themselves more marketable. For certain, almost everyone is ethnically mixed, but when that buried truth is invoked (or altogether fabricated) only insofar as it makes one more date-worthy -- or hookup-worthy -- I think there's something sick about that.

And about men being attracted to Thai women: sadly I think for most it is the attitude, that they are easy to handle and will do what you tell them to do, be nice and good girls.

I agree about most western men who live here for a certain period changing to like almost exclusively Thai women. I can't say I really share that strength of preference, but I do see it all around me. It's like a western guy can come over with his girlfriend and is totally in love with her just so long as they don't stay here longer than a month or two and then the Thai girl thing creeps up on them. Me, I remember as a youngster Yahoo chatting for the first time when the internet was all new and incredible to me, feeling really disappointed when this girl 'Crystal' turned out to be from Singapore rather than the US as I'd previously thought. If anything I was less attracted to Asians than any other women, but ended up marrying a Thai. It was only after I hooked up with Mon that I fbegan to find Asian women more attractive, but still for me it's only a relatively small part of generally preferring women with tan or dark skin and dark hair.

When I was growing up, the ONLY representations of Asian males in America were "Long Duck Dong" from 16 Candles, and a bunch of sexless 'humorous' scientists and such. As Margaret Cho points out in her comedy skit, when an Asian came on the television, "If you're the only Asian in the room when that happens, you're fucked."---meaning of course that everyone was going to look at you and point at you and laugh... And which point, you're reminded that you are 'different'.<--- This has happened to me many times.

So very very early on, Asian males are neutered. We are then subjected to penis-size stereotypes, math-stereotypes, and the list goes on and on and on. It's one of the reasons why I absolutely hate William Hung. I mean I HATE him. After all the shit that Asian men had to go through to change public perception of us...he comes along.

So we have a population of Asian kids... all grown up in a white world...all buying off on accepted stereotypes OF OUR OWN PEOPLE...and without any reservations about thinking that way.

Asian men get the shaft. Asian women make out rather nicely some times. Again this different in Californian cities and in some huge urban cities. I can only speak for smaller cities (less than 500,000 people), but from my experience it is true.

I once asked a young lady...who was obviously Chinese or Korean from birth... "Where are you from?"... She replied with slight southern accent, "Birmingham [Alabama]".. Then I said, "no... I mean where are you originally from?".. She then looked at me like I was rude, and said, "I was born here in Birmingham." ... So, yeah.... We are our own worst enemies sometimes.

There are black gay clubs too. Everyone is welcome at "the white club" and "the black club", no one is turned away. People just go to their favorite club because of the type of music that is being played. In the early 1990s, I went exclusively to the black club which was playing house music back at that time. I went to the white club a few times and they were playing house music also but it wasn't funky house music, it was more of that trance type stuff. There was one black guy that used to go to that club because he preferred white guys and he liked that type of music also.

In the 2000s, I stopped going to the black gay club because they mainly play shit hop nowadays. The few times that I even go out these days, I go to the white gay club. They still play a lot of that trance type music which is tolerable but I can't stand to even be in the same room with shit hop, it just spoils my whole mood. Also, nowadays, 90% of the older black gay people in my area go to the white gay club because the hate the shit hop also.

That last part astounds me, but thinking about it more, Asian Americans often seem so completely, wholly different to me to Asians born and living in Asia. Beyond the bare, stripped down physical appearance (since even in clothes, make-up etc. there's a massive difference) they seem to share very little in common.
