The Good Wife

OMG, I love, love, love this series. And I am one hard to please motherfucker when it comes to television series.

But this one has got it all; a great cast, interesting episode storylines and a really good season arch story line. It's a courtroom drama, but there are detective elements in this due to the investigative nature of the team lead character Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) is involved in.

The nearer we come to the end of the first season, the more the characters are showing their true natures. The great part in this is that the entire cast is magnificent, from the leads to the smaller roles. Even Alicia's kids are great actors and have their own part to play in the greater story arches.

What I love about this series is that all the female roles are KICK-ASS! Alicia is a cheated on wife that sticks with her husband and we see her struggle with her overbearing mother-in-law while her husband is in prison. From uppity-class lifestyle she has to pick up the part of working mother again, move to a smaller house and deal with the fall-out of having an incarcerated husband.

Then there are the other ladies; the mother in law is a small part, but the lady playing it is REAL good. But my most favourite parts, besides Alicia's are one of the bosses and an investigative aid at the firm.

Anyways, ever since the first few episodes of the first season of Heroes I haven't fallen in love with a new series this hard.

Has any of you seen it? What do you think of it?

The role of Diane Lockhart, one of the three partners in the lawfirm where Alicia works, is played by Christine Baranski. Her portrayal of a corporate shark is played with verve. Good thing about her role is that we not only see her as a hardworking career woman, she is also seen caring for her female employees and seen flirting with a man she never thought she would be attracted to.

That's the great thing about this series; it's not as one-dimensional as, let's say "House MD" and the acting is too good for television.

The other great female part is that of investigator Kalinda Sharma, played by Archie Panjabi. She is much harder than Alicia and teaches her to skim around the rules if need be. She doesn't mind doing the dirty work and does it with verve. Her contacts with the police are great and she lies her way into the lives of unsuspecting opponents just to give the lawyers of the firm the edge they need to win a case in court.

Like all characters, she has her own past; she used to work with Alicia's husband before he went to jail and there are a few stories she could tell, but doesn't. As all parts in this series, her role develops and gets enough limelight to allow Panjabi to put down a kick-ass woman.

I really dislike House. I actually wrote a longer diss, but decided to keep with my one beef about the show.

I could have shared how I think about the dumb sets, the horrid acting, the shallow characters portrayal and the horrendous casting (the only one I really dig is House himself, as he is played by a great actor)

(grin)

Now I am making you dislike The Good Wife, just becuz I dislike House, right?

These days it is hard to sit still through a show that is longer than 30 mins.

I can see why you do not like House. I did try once to get back into it but I found it too predictable.
I love Hugh Laurie (sp?) in it but the other cast members did not grab me.

This you won't have problems with, promise. It's a gripping story and the acting is real good. I love how most characters are seen as one things initially (goodish, baddish) and then during the season we see other sides and see them change into other things as well.

The great thing about it is that they give most the major characters enough screen time to give the actors a chance to put down real personalities, with nuances. I often miss that in other series.
But they do it in a way that they work on a case each episode and still work the greater season story line in between without it distracting from either story.

It's the best written series in a looooong time. I anticipate every episode.

Dr Who is often hard on people who did not grow up with the series. It is a bit camp, exp the older series.

i can relate to that...when i was preggers with Ben, jackie collins released a series of four short novels, i read the first three and took the fourth with me to read in hospital...
didnt pick it up for six mths pout

And you spelt Hugh Laurie correctly as well.

I must admit, some of the story lines had really grated on me (the detective ones shake ) but the eps leading up to the end of season 5, and season 6 have def rejuvanated me to Fam status.

I love how she now carries a series; she is an interesting actress. She is showing what she is capable of, which I love.

And Chris Noth ain't bad, but there's also Josh Charles and a smaller role for Matt Czuchry. jerkoff

Besides looking hunky; two real good actors.
