So, it's to rejoice his memory?

I'll second that then.

ALthough saying HAPPY makes it a bit Xmassy, doesn't it?

Or is that just me?

It's just you. I think Merry when I think Christmas.

Happy is more for birthdays, anniversaries and actually most other major holidays (New Year's, 4th of July, Easter, Halloween). So it seemed like the appropriate adjective.

Martin Luther King Jr.,day sends a very important message. It might have different meanings to different people but if you support equality for every human being, you should stop and give thanks to this man. Black, female, jewish, gay, etc. If you stand for HUMAN rights and EQUAL rights for all, then you are on the right track. To me its not about a holiday, or a day off, or a day of work, or black history, its about a man who started a movement about equality, step up and support equal rights for everyone, make his dream a reality.

I'm working today. And when I called someone for business reasons the person answered all flustered and confused. Thinking I may have called her home number, I apologized and she says "I'm not working today, I'm in the middle of celebrating the holiday".

Ok, I get the fact that today is a holiday, but how does one "celebrate" MLK day? shrug

Therapy

Remember him, Martin Luther King
When we stuggle and have war in our heads
That we too, can hold the message
Of equality.
There really is a way
To transcend the pain
And live out a day
Of our own uniqueness
A similarity dream parrallel.
So the dream is no longer that
And life takes on new meaning
And love grows and throbs
In each breath that melts in, out
And our greatness is matched in
The same equality he preached.

peace
