A Happy St. Patrick's Day! mix (with video) for you

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Here's a little something I knocked together for St. Patrick's Day.

And in the spirit of being green everything is recycled.

Title:
Chaos Theory AU0004
"A Severe Case of the Diddles"

Length:
9 minutes of your life that you'll never get back

Songs used:
Makem & Clancy - Morning Glory
Pogues - White City
Stockton's Wing - Beneath the Shade
Tinariwen - Imidiwan Winakalin
Makem & Clancy - A Place in the Choir
And the beats that hold it all together were borrowed from Fatboy Slim.

This started off life as an audio mix only and was intended for St. Patrick's Day last year. In fact, the audio mix was finished months in advance but then I got the idea to do a video for it. I was enjoying video editing so much I completely missed the target. But that's ok, I'm used to deadlines whizzing by.

Once I'd decided to make a video I could no longer make any changes to the audio mix, otherwise I'd never finish it. It could probably do with some changes - like what are Tinariwen doing in an otherwise all Irish diddly mix?

Well, I could say that music transcends geographical and cultural boundaries, and that the traditional musics of all nations are similar in construct and purpose, and that because St. Patrick's day is celebrated globally it is fitting that the traditional leaping-about music of other nations be included.

But the truth is I like the song and it fits. I suppose it would make sense to either restrict it to just traditional Irish music or to include traditional music from more nations, but that would be to assume that I started out with any plan in mind, which I didn't - other than to make a diddly mix that sounded good (to me).

I recently added some finishing touches and have decided to deem it finished, although I could probably continue messing about with it for months. But I won't.

Enjoy! (or not, I don't really mind, it's your time you're wasting). smile
