Is there a Thai version of corned beef and cabbage? Cuz it's St. Paddy's Day and that's what I'm having! We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Yeah, I always do larb gai. Don't like the beef. Once I ordered Yum Pla Crob. Didn't like that though. I actually make a delicious raw-vegan larb from walnuts. I think the problem with Thai food is that it's like navigating a landmind. Some of it is incredibly delicious while some of it is just...erm... too much.

With the lime juice and peppers and chiles and cilantro?

Oh, what I would give to have some of that! Nothing better than corned beef on rye with mustard!

I don't know what its called... but the roasted duck with mango over rice is what I always ordered at the Thai place in my area. I also loved their beef (sliced super thin with the freshest ingredients) soup and a tall glass of coconut milk on the side.

is it ghin na ree? I have zero clue since I only ever paid attention to the English side of the menu. But all the food there is awesome, my fav is the mango duck. I know the soup was called pho.

You inspired me to try it today so I went on line and looked up local Thai restaurants. I found one that had GREAT reviews so off I went. I found the place, it was nice and I told the waitress/cashier I had never had Thai food before. She told me what people usually got, Pad Thai or the Crispy Cashew chicken. Growing up eating filipino food I have a thing for glass noodles so I ordered the Pad Woon Sen with pork. OHMIGOD It was sooo good!. Spicy but good.
So thank you for this thread, you helped me to experience something new today. http://local.yahoo.com/in...ai-killeen We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Ok I like the 'restauranty' stuff like tom kha kai, tom yam plamook, tom saep, somtam, namtok, yam tuna, phad piew waan etc. but living here I'd never eat that kind of thing every day. So... I like everyday stuff like jok (rice soup): Stuff like guaytiew or, as in the pic, guayjap: Or khao kha moo: Khao man kai: Yen ta fo: Stuff at the market that comes in bags, like fried vegetables, chicken with ginger, red curry etc. These are the things Thai people eat every day. I like the FR-1 with chicken, spice on the side. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Nearly forgot one of my faves, huu moo phalo
Pig ear Really, my favourite food here is moo gata, a Thai barbecue. While waiting for the 'nam chim' (dipping sauce), soup and anything else being prepared, and getting impatient, you first grill some squid, shrimp, or maybe beef or pork on a regular barbecue so you have some food to pick at, then you use the 'gata', a barbecue grill with a moat around the outside. In the moat you put a soup and boil glass noodles, vegetables, fish balls, beef balls etc., while on top you put a piece of pork fat then put your beef, chicken, pork, or whatever. The dipping sauce is just the greatest thing on the planet. We normally get a half or full kilo of beef, pork, chicken, squid, meat balls for the 'gata' and the whole meal for about 8 people comes in at around $30. So thank you for this thread, you helped me to experience something new today. http://local.yahoo.com/in...ai-killeen You're so welcome! I'm glad you were able to expand your culinary experience! Yeah, most people go for the Pad Thai, but I'm not too big on it. I guess when I had it, it wasn't that good that day, but I've seen reviews where people just love it.
