They're Putting A New Roof On The Building Where I Live Today

The roofers put a note on the front and back doors, telling us that they were going to put a new roof on the building. The notice also said that we would hear some humming sounds. LOL - There has been a lot more then just humming sounds going on. There's been a whole lot of pounding going on up there. lol My one cat is freaked out by the noise, he's hiding behind the couch, poor little guy. But overall, I can't complain. I'm glad the condo association that is in charge of this place, and who I and others living here have paid a lot of money to, are putting the money spent to good use.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

In the summer of 1987, they put a new roof on the apartment building I lived in. It was a total tear-off and redesign (going from a flat roof to a pitched one) - and they did it during the rainiest July on record in Madison. I lived on the top floor. One night, while I was at work, my bedroom ceiling caved in. I came home and the drywall was hanging down...water rushing into the room.

There were all kinds of problems after that - mildew, mold - you name it. I withheld my rent and finally managed to sublet a different apartment and get the hell out of there. They tried to come after me for the money. I told them, "Listen - my electric bills were higher because I had to run a dehumidifier and the air conditioner constantly to try and dry the place out. How about I pay the utilities, you forgive the rent, and I'll sign something releasing you from any further damage claims regarding my property?" They went for it - and I was out of there. Thank God.

omfg Sorry to hear that happened to you. That sounds awful!

A long time ago, I place where I used to work at had some roofing work done. It also was during a very rainy week during the summer. The workers foolishly forgot to cover the open areas on the roof with tarp, to keep the water out. As a result, we had a lot of water coming in, and some things got ruined. disbelief

You would think that these roofers would know what they're doing so that these things don't happen.

giggle I would, but I guess I don't care to. I should care though, since I paid into the roof being replaced. I honestly don't know one roof from the other. lol

Okay, the booming and banging is getting to be a little bit much. Think I need to put my headphones on again, and listen to some music. It's a darn good thing I'm not hung over. lol The booming and banging would really be too much for me to handle. lol

Sounds like they are filming a porn flick up there rather than putting up a new roof.

I forgot to mention that when they did that roof tear-off way back when, I was down the first couple days with a summer virus - fever, bad headache, etc.

That whole episode was your basic shit storm. lol

lol They started about 9:00 today, and finished a little after 4:00. According to the note they put up on the doors to this building, it was only going to be a one-day job. Let's hope so. lol
