Ex-Moderator | An afternoon on Lake Street in Minneapolis So, today was the warmest day of spring we've had so far and we hit a record high temperature of 64 degrees F. I was outside without a coat or scarf on, which in March is pretty frickin' amazing.
I decided to walk from my place in the Midtown Phillips neighborhood down Lake Street about 2 miles to Lake Calhoun. I passed through 2 of my old neighborhoods, LynLake and Uptown along the way. This is the stuff I took pictures of. This is the main lobby of the building I live in. This is a crazy sculpture going down the stairs: Here's the entrance to the Global Market that's on the main floor of my building: Here's the outside of my building, the main entrance: This is directly across the street from me. And what you'll notice from the next few pics is that my neighborhood is still kinda shady. But it's up and coming. Renovating the building I live in has been integral to bringing this community back up. What I love is that I live in the most diverse neighborhood in the city of Minneapolis. That makes for great food, great art and great culture. This is the greenway, though it's not that green yet. It's an old railroad corridor that has been turned into biking and walking trails. Mpls is big on the outdoors: stuff down Lake St: |

And we hit the LynLkae neighborood: I love that this is a punk rock music store next to a cowboy shop: Yummy: George Clinton gets his hair did here (so did I once upon a time, in fact they did my hair for prom): I love this sign: GROSS! (but love the sign!): |

Everyone's heard of this place: This was blowing in the wind, strung across the main intersection in Uptown. I'm not sure if you can tell, but it's a broken heart: Black snow: |

Ex-Moderator | And finally Lake Calhoun (still frozen):
You can see someone doing something CRAZY here. Windsurfing across the ice. Yeah, right in fron of me is open water. People are nuts. There were folks in the middle of the lake playing frisbee too. |

I wanna go and see what's in that NOVEDADES shop. OMG Here's a bit closer: There's TONS of murals in my neighborhood. I wish I'd have got a shot of the other side of this one, as there's a big angel that was really neat too. |
