Carrie, you're making me miss Minneapolis.
Worked here at a salon right next door to Famous Daves: I remember "Das Boot" was playing at the Uptown Theater when I was there. And for those who think 64 is cold - in Minneapolis in March, it's heaven! It also reminds me that exactly 13 years ago TODAY (3.15), I moved to Minneapolis. I lived on Blaisdell Ave, which was right off West Lake. There was some little mexican restaurant a block up the road on the corner of W. 26th St and Blaisdell Avenue (I lived between 26th and 27th). GOD it was good stuff! I would walk up to W. lake and catch the bus down to Hennepin, and go to work at the salon. Later, I worked at the Mall of America. I'd catch the same bus, going west, and catch the express ON the highway. It was freaky walking up to the interstate and sitting at a bus stop while cars sped by at 60 mph! haha This was before we knew the song "Calhoun Square", although "Lake of the Isles" (a short walk away) was mentioned in "Rock N Roll Is Alive". Every day you're reminded of Prince's love for his city, and its mentions in his songs. The people, the attitude, - so many wonderful things about Minneapolis. There is no better and more beautiful summer I spent in the world, than that in Minneapolis.

And you’ve got to be talking about Little T’s! Or maybe even Pancho Villa. They’re both right in that area. Were the severs all punk rockers and did you get crayons to draw on your table “cloth”? That area has had quite the renaissance since you’ve been here. Nicollet has been nicknamed Eat Street for all the restaurants located up and down it, from all nationalities, Chinese, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Thai, Mexican, Middle Eastern and of course a handful of coffee shops and an American place or two. And the light rail goes to the Mall now, so very few people use that freeway bus stop anymore. I know how crazy it is, I’ve taken it myself. |

This is directly across the street from me. And what you'll notice from the next few pics is that my neighborhood is still kinda shady. But it's up and coming. Renovating the building I live in has been integral to bringing this community back up. What I love is that I live in the most diverse neighborhood in the city of Minneapolis. That makes for great food, great art and great culture. I cant believe you live right across the street from a shop like that!!!! u2nails?

These shots are awesome.
We often do single-photo "where I live" threads, but I'd love to see an entire shoot like this from orgers around the world. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Hell, everyone in that area were punks or at least had purple hair. I remember Zio's Kitchen back in Oklahoma having the brown paper table clothes to draw on. There wasn't a light rail when I was there, or I might not have been aware of it. I LOVED hanging out on Nicollet Mall. There was a great record store there where I picked up some stuff. I didn't know about NPG being Prince per se, and totally skipped picking up Exodus. I used to go to Barnes and Noble, buy discount books, then head to the opposite end where there was a park and a fountain, and I'd just sit in the sun and read all day. I didn't really know anyone in Calhoun Square, by name. I went to a Starbucks, Borders, and that candle shop. I bought the aqua blue dolphin candle that Prince used in the L4OA special. There was a good eatery next to that where you wrote down the kind of sandwich you wanted, and what you wanted on it, then they'd make it for you. I remember not knowing "Cukes" were. LOL Just never heard that phrase before. Man, the smell of BBQ in the salon made my mouth water daily. We were RIGHT next door to it. We could often hear the live music coming from there, unless the Stevie Nicks-wannabe in the salon was blaring another fucking Sarah MacLachlan or Lorena McKennit (sp) CD (I didn't like Sarah at the time).
