Exactly.

And I'm sorry...but I still don't get why it is incumbent upon famous gay people (or any gay people, for that matter) to trumpet their sexuality. If that's what you want to do, great. But I don't get why it's expected (or demanded). Let people live their lives. shrug

I don't believe in "outing" but I do believe in the importance of folk being out.
When other minorities achieve milestones or set examples of success for younger generations it is more often than not visible and we still feel the need (often rightfully so) to announce or make note of their ethnicity or gender.
When gays do this, it is not as visible or even at all (Sean Hayes excluded lol).
I think it's important for younger generations (or older ones for that matter) of gays to grow up seeing other folk like us achieve success while being proud in who they are.

You're right that people should let people live their lives, but the whole "what folk do in private" is a double edge sword. It can also fuel the notion that who people are should remain behind closed doors.

Which to me is a dead giveaway anyway. Straight guys rarely refuse to answer that question.

When the fuck was he ever in?

I know there's (still) the whole deal of officially coming out and I know why it's important to do so, both for celebrities and regular people alike, but there are definitely those who it's just not necessary to announce it for people to know.

That reminds me of Howard Stern often jokes about an old Merv Griffin interview where he asks Liberace why he hasn't met the right girl yet. biggrin

People were surprised when Clay Aiken came out too.

I don't get it either, I'm with you 100%. I question these very points almost daily. boxed

I'd be happy to see a day when a persons sexuality held the same importance as a persons favorite Kool-Aid flavor.

It's one thing when people are surprised when someone who doesn't match popular expectations and stereotypes of gay people come out; when a manly man or feminine woman do because there ARE so many people who still believe the cliches. But to be surprised when someone who is a living example of the trope comes out?

Clay Aiken always seemed asexual to me. Like he could give a phuck and wanted to be alone forever. hmmm I just can't picture him having any kind of sex with any kind of body.
