So I know how to read Soi Nana in Thai and Cafe' Yen , but that's because they use letters that I've learned. I've been busy.

But then I'm smart enough to know that if only I say 'wua' after it it won't matter what tones I use. They'll know I'm saying beef There's always a workaround. I think the importance of tones is over-emphasized anyway. Thais are very lazy with their colloquial language so I just copy them to make sure I'm understood. I can't face actually formally trying to learn tones for all the words I know. I think it might even confuse me! I can sometimes piece together words when reading Thai, by recognizing the odd vowel or consonant and then using context and guessing. Reading and writing is actually something I'd like to make an effort to sit down and formally learn though. Tones... pffft. If they don't automatically find their way into my brain so I can instinctively use them then I'm not learning them shits. Thais also often type eieieieieieie... say, 'charlotte eieieieieieie', which would be like saying 'oh charlotte dear! (followed by something like 'what have you done this time? what happened?! etc.). It's kinda affectionate. MY COUSIN WORKS IN A PHARMACY AND SHE SAID THEY ENEMA'D PRANCE INTO OBLIVION WITH FENTONILS!!

It's similar to how they say 'ja', meaning something like 'dear'. Charlotte ja or jaaaaa Or like the polite words Thais use at the end of sentences, 'khrap' (by men) and 'ka' (by women). Those can be used by themselves as just 'ok' or to answer in the affirmative. e.g. Bai talaat mai khrap? (are you going to the market?) .... khrap You can just say 'ja' instead or 'ja ja ja', like 'yep, ok, sure, no problem, ok ok ok' So in Thai chat rooms it's common to see something like... After ten hours of talking, discussing and presenting I'm finally home and can call myself the champion of all competitors from my state!
The "huge" final will be on 9th of April, where I will battle out the place for the champion of my nation with the other eight state winners Thanks again for wishing me luck - It did pay off! [Edited 3/10/10 10:28am]
