when is the last time you called in sick to your job?

do you do it often? will you do it when you're not even sick, or do you have to be at death's door before you miss a day?
everyone's a fruit & nut case

I typically don't skip work or school unless im very sick, or wanting to get really high that day.

It's hard when you're a teacher, because schools are germ factories- so it becomes a dilemma when you don't feel well: Do I risk infecting more people (who I probably caught it from in the 1st place), or do I stay home and let a sub "F" up my classroom? Plus, it puts us so far behind curriculum-wise. disbelief

But... I called in last week because I had to go for blood work.

I've only called in "sick lurking" a few times- the day after concerts. biggrin

It's been a long-ass time.

Right now, I am in a transitional phase, and I am substitute teaching as a way to gain a little income. I rely on people calling in sick for me to get work!

I hardly ever call in sick. And if I really don't feel like going to work I'll just take a day off.

I'd call in sick for you though boff

Last month, and I was pretty sick lol

I hate skipping work though, because it takes TWICE as much to keep up with what you're missing.

Yesterday.....for the first time in my life. And even though I wanted to go back today, I couldn´t because my doctor told me not to do so and even warned me. Have to go back to the doctor tomorrow.

Last December I took two days off in a row! That was the first time I'd taken more than half a day off in two years.

Just make sure you follow the plans the teachers leave... that's our #1 gripe, when we come back and nothing was done, or the sub got "creative". wink

I always follow the plans, when they are given. Occasionally teachers neglect to leave any plans.

Last week the students tried to get me to let them out 2 minutes before the bell rang so they could get to the lunch line early. They told me that the teacher always lets them do it. I said that if it was that important to the teacher, she would have put it on the note she left me.

It's been a very long time.

Up until about a month ago, I was working in tandem with another writer. Unless it was a dire emergency, both of us couldn't be gone at the same time. (I thought it was a ridiculous policy, but it was what it was.) It seemed like the only times I got sick were times she was on vacation. Which meant that - no matter how shitty I felt - I had to be at work. So the last time I remember taking off was when I had an ocular migraine and couldn't see well enough to drive.

Now, I'm working in an area where there are more writers who can cover. So when I'm sick, I'm stayin' home, dammit. hmph!

I never call in sick, but whnever it snows I automatically have the day off, and I take a lot of time off for court date. So thats pretty fricken often.

I was just off 2 weeks ago on Thurs Fri Sat Sun Mon, and my boss instead of taking it all off one weeks pay only deducts a day a week, so I don't go broke.

I rarely get sick. I used to call in sick every once in a while at my old job just to get a few days off now and then. But since becoming a freelancer...I can't call in sick even if I wanted to.

Last summer I had swine flu. I called in then.

I haven't been sick at all this winter*, but when I am, I will call in. If I don't rest when I have a cold or whatever, I tend to end up with respiratory complications that last for weeks or months. My health and well-being is important to me, and if my employer can't support me in taking care of myself, I'll find another job.

*It is super freakin' unusual for me to get through a winter without getting sick at all. I'm not sure I ever have before, at least in my adult life. I did start taking some additional vitamins which may be helping, but honestly, you know what I think it is? I'm single. And SO MUCH LESS STRESSED as a result. I think my significant others were making me, literally, sick and tired. lol
