Wow. I was talking with my wife about shoes because she wants to get three or four new pairs and I thought of this thread. Looked it up, scrolled through with her, and damn if 90% of the shoes posted here aren't fugly as hell.

And I do agree that a shoe doesn't have to be crazy expensive to be chic...

However, I do like to wear things that are a little "different" sometimes. (Not armadillo shoe different! )
Sometimes the shoe IS the outfit- because the clothes are nothing special.

We never do it, but I always say to Mon to buy 3 or 4 of the same shoe if she likes them. Some styles of shoe will be good for years. Recently though it seems impossible to get just a regular strappy black high heel (not in that style with a zillion strappy bits down the front - what do you call those? - just the 2 or 3 straps, something that goes with most clothes).
