All of a sudden I decided I like cauliflower!

I have spend decades hating it after a food poisoning incident when I was 6.

But one day, suddenly I craved it and I've not looked back since.

WEIRD eek

same with brussel sprouts

It has taken me close to 40 years to grow up, if all that happened is I acquired adult tastes. (Still waiting for coffee and red wine cravings barf )

has that ever happened to you? A sudden aversion reversal?

I disliked almost everything except sauerkraut, growing up. My mom tried everything and in the end she just gave up, I think.

The first time I started eating foods I used not to like was when I was 16-17 and my bf challenged me, as soon as he found out I just shouted I disliked it, even before trying. Ever since I eat almost everything.

Except cauliflower. Cuz it still make me retch. The smell of the cooked variety, I mean.

Chinese food nod

I had a severe asthma attack last year that left me in bed for a week, I couldn't eat or drink ANYTHING, not even water.

My girlfriend showed up at the house with a bag full of Chinese food ALL for herself and a vegetable soup for me lol I threw the soup back at her face and ambushed her food.

Dim sum for example, which have always tasted nasty to me all of a sudden became irresistible lol 5 years earlier you couldn't pay my rent to eat Chinese food.

In my case, I discovered many appetites that have always been out of character whenever I get sick.

Yeah, Falafel with Hummus or tahini and Arabic bread is just the best, they do it the best over here.

Cauliflower and brussels sprouts are great roasted. drool

The thing I hated as a kid, but sort of like as a grown-up, is spinach. When I was a kid, my mom always bought canned spinach, which is the nastiest, stringiest stuff you've ever seen. It made me gag. barf

There are also a lot of things I never knew liked, because I never had them - like kale and collard greens.

I always hated olives... but I tried them a couple of years ago and have now developed a weird obsession for them. I always have to have some in the house and I eat far too many.

I've always loved cauliflower, I even like to eat it uncooked. giggle

The thing that I used to hate as a kid was squash. For some reason, eating it made me gag. But the older I got, the more I liked it. I think it's partially because of all of the butter that my mom puts into it when she cooks it. giggle
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

A lot of people I know who hate beets always ate canned beets as children. I bet if I made you my roasted beet salad with blood orange vinaigrette, you'd love them.

Liver just tastes like ass. I don't know how anyone can eat that. shake

MrsMdiver

I started eating cauliflower for the first time when I moved to the UK and I had cauliflower cheese.
I found that I also like it fresh, steamed with some vinegar on it.

I never thought I liked cabbage but I like that too now, fresh steamed with a bit of vinegar drizzled on.

Oh and I also eat asparagus now, fresh cooked under the grill with soy sauce and balsamic vinegar drizzled on it.

I do not think I will ever like Brussels Sprout or mushrooms. feeling ill

I like it too. I like it in vegan curries when it's fried to a slight toastiness before.

I also like it raw in a recipe that mimics mashed potatoes.
Good stuff, actually.

confuse I can't rightly recall, but they probably were canned. It would still take a bit of prodding to try them.

I must say that I have never tasted ass but I can't even stand the smell of liver cooking. I do however cook chicken livers for my dog.I just hold my nose.

I had a incident where I got food poisoning from a hotdog. After that I would'nt touch them for years. Then one time when we were having a barbeque,I decided to have one, nothing happened,so I will eat then now. nod

I have never tried cauliflower, but just know that I would'nt like it. I love broccoli though.

I hated cumin as a child. I think that's was it anyway. Something about that spice made food smell like dirt and ass to me. I couldn't eat ANY mexican food for many years, especially tacos. Somewhere in my early 20's that went away. Now I really enjoy cumin, as long as it's combined with other spices.

I still don't like how it smells, though (the smell of taco meat in particular makes me wanna vomit). But I enjoy how the food tastes.

I think some thing we aquire tastes for (coffee, wine, beer) and I think our taste buds change as we get older. I feel like I read ab out a study done and children taste things much more sharply than we do, particularly bitter, and over time that dulls.
I know I HATED onions and green peppers as a child and now I put onions in everything and like green peppers. (Though, I still prefer sweeter peppers, like red, yellow and orange to green.)

I always liked the smell of coffee but never would drink it and swore I never would from how bad it tasted, now it's a must! I've been having it every morning for the past two years nod
