doing it but i think it started as soon as we went from the
black and purple org to this one.

Cool, thanks for explaining it. I think it's neat to have your own style.

.avi files should work fine

I just googled
http://forums.cnet.com/52...dID=349912
weird huh!

wait. i don't understand smile does that mean you tried and it didn't work.
(i.e. you're being sarcastic)

or does it mean that you've just looked it up and are thinking that avi
files are something that you're gonna go and give a try now.
(i.e. you're feeling technologically adventurous)

smile

apparently in other countries, the usb port can be used to watch files in divx or avi
but firmware was not installed in sets sold here
what I read on that thread was how to macgyver the set to believe it's the next model up and let you use the "movie" capability or something.
I tried the first part about accessing service menu but nothing happened.
They are talking about another model to mine though sad

as crazy as that stuff sounds sometimes, it seems to work quite often.

i know next to nothing about that stuff but my brother is a walking
technological encyclopeadia. whenever i need something fixed or have
something explained, i just call him. on my phone, that he helped me
understand.

well I tried it and no service menu for me sad

I'm scared of bricking the set
- even the smallest mistake is likely to turn your shiny device into a useless but expensive BRICK
- modifying the Firmware on your device will definitely VOID YOUR WARRANTY

Unless they invent something portable that is voice activated and types the words you speak into it, desktop computers will always be around because businesses need them. You can't do no real typing on a phone because the keys are too small. Hell, I even make more typing errors on a laptop because the keys are slightly smaller so I can never make a living typing on something as small as a phone.

Yeah laptops aren't exactly type friendly. The biggest advantage of laptops
is simply mobility.

I have always wondered why your line breaks are so much shorter than everyone else's. Is it the machine you use? The internet provider? You just like hitting the "return" bar?

Google: Desktop PCs to be "irrelevant" in 3 years
By Christopher Null
.If you're reading this on a computer, you're about to be lost in the past, at least according to a Google Europe executive, John Herlihy, who has proclaimed the PC era just about over.

By 2013, says Herlihy, the desktop PC will be irrelevant, and the smart phone will be the platform of choice for most Internet use.

Silicon Republic says Herlihy's audience, a "Digital Landscapes" conference at University College Dublin, was "baffled" by the statement, although many a pundit has made this prediction in recent months. Other Google executives have also posited that the company's primary focus going forward will be on mobile technologies.

It's unclear how much Google will focus on phones versus other mobile devices such as laptops and nascent tablet devices like the Apple iPad, but it's clear that in the long term, all PC-based devices are at risk of being made irrelevant by more pocket-friendly machinery.

But is three years being too aggressive? The pace of innovation is blistering in the smart phone space (remember that just three years ago there was no iPhone and no Android OS), but will the advances in the next three years be enough to make computers as we know them obsolete? It's obvious that there will still be a market for the desktop (or at least the laptop) come 2013 - the need for larger screens for corporate work will alone ensure that - but how big will that market be, and is it ultimately as doomed as the Silicon Valley bigshots would have us believe?

No! You can't use blackberries and iphones for office work and academic work. Not only that but I don't want to watch videos and movies on tiny devices or listen to all my music on an ipod! I think that is not only jumping the gun but a ridiculous prediction! How many people who have cell phones still have landlines at home? Also, desktop computers are a hell of less attractive to steal than laptops and more so for iphones! mad
