how long would u let somebody borrow your car before you want it back?

okay...my generosity is being taken for granted...again.

my older sister (44 with no job, not looking) has been driving my car ( i still have my jeep) since december. it was supposed to be a temporary loan thing since the van she has stopped working. it was only supposed to be a few weeks. well here it is now well into march and she's acting like she don't wanna give me my whip back. i asked her if she even had the van looked at to see what the problem is and she's like no. mad then i asked her if she could at least pay the insurance on it while she has it and she says she's broke. i don't see any prospects for this improving without a job, and i'm trying to be sympathetic...but driving a jeep 50 miles a day is killing my pockets and putting wear and tear on my fun vehicle.

so at what point can i ask for my car back and not seem like an asshole?

I'd say either now, or on an upcoming episode of Judge Joe Brown.

If she isn't looking after herself, how can you know she's looking after your property? Oil changes, washing it, is she properly insured, ect...

Will she at least offer to pay you back in full for any expenses after she has found a job? If not then take the car back now.

well i covered my ass by having her listed as a qualified driver...but i'm torn because she has 2-year old son and they live kinda off the beaten path. i want her to be able to get around, but dang!!! 3 months and you haven't even had somebody look at the van to see what's wrong???? WTF.

I say since she's your sister and she and the two-year-old really depend on this ride, maintain it yourself for the time being and then once she finds a job and gets steady income, hit her with a bill.

Uh, I don't think you will be getting your car back anytime soon unless you go high-jack it yourself. I don't mean to talk about your family, but your sister is taking advantage of you and you are allowing her to do it. If you're really concerned about her and the baby, then I suggest you just write it off as a gift to her. You might want to transfer ownership over to her in case she wrecks it and causes property damage or injury to someone.

Exactly. And I'd probably figure out a way to drive them, rather than actually lending the car.

tough love is often the best kind...

a run to the store would be fine but for an extended period of time like this then we talk payments... and you wouldn't be gettin' my good car!
