IF YOU ARE AN ONLY CHILD....SOUND OFF!!!! (inspired by Val's thread)

I'm an only child and don't feel I've missed out on much. Yeah, every once in a while I wish I had a brother or sister.

Hey wave

I actually have a half sister. She is 5 yrs older than me. My dad did not have custody of her but she spent a summer with us when I was about 8. She used to punch me, chase me with knives, threaten to kill me in my sleep.
So, I really do not consider her family, haven't for a really long time.

I haven't had much luck with my blood relatives to be honest apart from my mom.

I have been blessed with amazing friends and in-laws though.

I've been an only child for 22 years. It would be 24, but for about two, I was a middle child between two step-brothers.

Meh, screw it. I've been an only child for 24 years. razz I get all the love, all the toys. I am the middle cousin on my maternal side of the family. It would have been nice to have siblings, but I've been okay on my own. Besides, if my dad pops up right now with a new child at 57, I think I might fall over and die. lol

Indeed, my dad's entire family is crazy like that, including my dad.
You sure don't pick your family.

A friend on FB that I went to high school with just told me she is an only child.
She is a mom of two really great kids now. She is an amazing person, I admire her. She was definitely not raised like a spoiled only child.

Only in da house! hug There were times when I wanted siblings, but by high school, I was over that dream. It obviously wasn't meant to be. I just bought this book about birth order, and so far it is quite interesting to learn birth order and who becomes leaders, personality differences, and onlies get their own category and not share with firstborns.

as an only child of self employed parents, I was always around adults growing up...when I did get around other kids, they seemed so 'childish'...
I had a great childhood and all but I feel I missed out on some things because I didn't have siblings...I knew that if I was ever gonna be a parent, I wanted more than one child...I see how my son and daughter interact and I love it and sometimes I'm a lil jealous...lol

Yes I'm an only child but I have an older half-sister. We didn't grow up together but have tried to have a sisterly relationship multiple times though nothing has come of it. We are just way too different. I consider her more of an associate rather than family. In fact we haven't even talked to each other in over a year now I think. But oh well, I loved growing up the only child. I never had to worry about a sibling coming into my room and destroying my toys. I was always very meticulous about my stuff and I still am to this day. It drives my boyfriend up the wall. lol
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I can relate a bit. My great grandmother cared for me a lot. My mom worked long hours. Because I spent so much time with just my grandmother until I entered school, I did find other kids quite childish.
Now I find many adults quite childish.

Adopted and raised as an only child, then had a sister and brother later in life, so I had the best of both worlds. I am so glad I got to know my sister as my sister. My brother and I had a good relationship but he wrecked it when our sister died.

Being raised an only child was pretty good. Maybe if I had been raised with my sister and brother things would be different but I doubt it.
