I wish I could find the link, but there was an excellent last year about this very topic. In a nutshell they didn't define any class based solely on what you make, but rather on what you can afford to spend.

good point hmmm

I thought so, too. Especially since I know plenty of people that make more than me but can't afford to put cheese on a Whopper. And I know plenty of people that earn less than me but can afford to have all kinds of nice shit and travel and have fun and shit. neutral Student loans and daycare are putting a hurting on me and the missus.

deadmansbones

People really need to look at the distribution of wealth in the U.S. I posted a good analysis in another thread a few weeks ago. The top 5% have all the wealth--I'm not even sure if it's 5--it might be 2! lol Interestingly enough, the distribution didn't even change that much during the Great Depression. It's just the wealthy were not as wealthy.. and the disparity was not as great. But as far as the percentage, it didn't change all that much.

It's really frustrating. I saw Dennis Miller on Fox last night. I wanted to throw my food at him. He's going on and on about how trusts big business more than the government as far as money! Then he said he trusted insurance companies. Well... I have a feeling Dennis Miller is probably in the upper third of wealth at least. He is NOT representative of most American. Bill O'Reilly is NOT representative of most Americans.. Rush Limbaugh is NOT representative of MOST Americans. It is to their advantage government does not increase their taxes because.. they make more than 250,000/year for sure. Most Americans do NOT make 250,000/ year even.

The truth is MOST Americans will never have their "wealth"---not that these guys are on the same level as say Bill Gates. But they are still wealthier than most Americans. Sure they may have lived the American dream, but at the same time the dream will never be a reality for most Americans. Most people are NEVER going to attain their wealth much less the wealth of Bill Gates or Oprah--or say Michael Moore.

Big business more trustworthy? Give me a freakin' break. How many business pay people a living wage? CEO's have always made their wealth off the backs of the middle class and big business, and Dennis Miller--this wealthy, comedian, political/social commentators trusts big business more than government? Sure he does. to perpetuate the status quo!

And of course, nobody wants to admit he/she needs help from the government because that somehow refects badly on a "person" rather than being just a reality of the system..

Anyway... sorry for going on and on. But he makes me so mad! lol
