Try a blend of natural oils... I have curly hair and I used a refined coconut oil. I use very little, but I think you can apply then rinse after washing and the hair will respond better.
FYI coconut oil replaces lost protein to the hair more than other natural oils. I stopped using "professional" products and now just go straight to the real oils. Its more economical for me, and better on my hair and skin. http://www.spectrumorganics.com/

My hair is very curly, course and thick. I'll check it out, thanks. One thing, the hardest part about using what I call "raw" products, you have to learn HOW to use the oils. I have fine, extremely curly parched hair so I add oil after I wash and condition with everyday shampoos. I just find the dry scalp shampoo I like, a decent conditioner and do a final rinse with the oil. To wear my hair in its curly state. OR... Wash and condition then dry and straighten then add drops of oil after that. damn oil is tricky to use, but once you get used to using the oil for your specific hair needs there is nothing better. Curly hair can be a bitch because each head has several different textures, so not all the products work the same on each head. Brushes, combs, shampoos, styling products, styling tools (heat) the weather and how you wear your hair to bed, and during the day can affect how your hair behaves. You may want to revamp your styling tools, pillow cases, head wear, and not just your products.

Do you do well with that oil? How do you use the oil? I was thinking of mixing the two since the coconut is getting harder to find.

I need something with natural ingredients, not the chemical shit. Find a natural conditioner with Bergumot or Kaffir Lime. The more acidic your conditioner, the softer and shinier your hair. Anything with sulfar or acids will do the trick. (my stylist taught me that). Kaffir limes can be hard to find in non-tropical countries though, but if you can find them, just rinsing your hair with kaffir lime juice will soften it. Or you can soak your hair in olive oil for 30 minutes, then rinse it out with a gentle shampoo. Nature's Gate makes a great Eucalyptus/Blue Cyprus shampoo and conditioner that softens hair---without chemicals. I gave up on chemical, commercial products two years ago. My hair's as soft now as it's ever been. There's no reason to use harsh chemicals on hair. Again, find something that has alot of sulfur or acid content. The cool thing about being here in Bangkok is that there is no shortage of natural shampoos/conditioners that have Kaffir Lime/Bergamot in them.

A brush is no good and if I use a comb it gets destroyed. I know your pain, I used to rip my hair out with the wrong brushes and combs. Section hair, and using a wide tooth hard rubber comb detangle from the ends up while the hair is DRY (before you wash) try not to mush up your hair too much when you wash and comb out with the oil/conditioner (or both ) in it. You have to use small sections and keep the hair sectioned as you finish it. Try not to wear a ponytail for a prolonged period and detangle every day and try not to mat the hair by sleeping on a bun style. Braided hair works better in the morning. I straighten mines when I can and wrap it.... so much damn work! :-X But it feels great.

Do you do well with that oil? How do you use the oil? I was thinking of mixing the two since the coconut is getting harder to find. go to the indian shops- they sell alllll that stuff - it is gr8! all natural stuff I use it after i shampoo, pour it in2 my palm then scrub it in2 the hair and then u can take a towel to get all the excess out or u can leave it in but it is a bit greasy. and then u can use a comb to get all the knots out no need to use a wide tooth comb. and yes I love it acts as a gr8 conditioner 4 my skin and hair. When i use to do my hair at the salon every 2 weeks in between appts on the weekend id put evoo in my hair and leave it 4 the whole day ( cause id be at home) id wake up my hair would be shiny, and healthy looking. my hair is very very dry as well, and if i don't wash it every day the knots become wild lol, if u get evoo make sure it says evoo and NOT lite etc etc cause all that is processed. If u can be italian or spanish evoo then cool- as they r the best growers. what evoo means is that it is the first press of the olive ONLY. so you know it is pure to the core. I don't like conditioners. They tend to leave my hair heavy, limp, and lifeless. My hair seems to have more life and managability right after it's freshly washed with just shampoo mainly when it's short. When it gets some length to it, I can't do anything with it. Well, I'll put it this way, I don't have the patience to fool with it like I used to. Andy is a four letter word.
