The magic of old Hollywood Ledgends!! (opinions)

I dont know about you all but I have a fascination for Old Hollywood, and all the fabulous stars of that time.. However Some had tragic deaths, Some lived great lives (all there stories to some degree just sparkle) Marilyn, Elvis,Judy, and James... all so young and beautiful still in the memory of so many hearts... I wonder what would have become of them (If tragedy hadn't struck there lives) So For all of you out there that have a love for Hollywood legends (Lets give it up for all the greats in there glory!!) Oh and I know It's hard to choose but who is your favorite star of that era?

Mine without a doubt would be Elvis Presley ( magic came from that man voice, body and all)

Oh yeah, I would say that the movie stars of today do not measure up to the standard.

For me, part of the magic is that they come from a time before mine. It's mystical, mythical, more than the 70's and beyond, which I actually lived through.

Also I think their images were more controlled, so we didn't get to see their sex tapes, we didn't know that they were racists or beat their children or called their daughters "pigs" in their phone messages. So they seemed more separate from the rest of the population than today's stars.

I don't think that it's because they are forever young, because Elvis, Judy, Lucy all lived longer than their youth & beauty

That was one of the true beauties of the studio system.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

that is what i feel is missing. the mysteriousness and the "other worldly" type of air that was given to these hollywood personas that are totally missing today.
internet has made celebrities overexposed.

"Reality" killed what little remained of old hollywood, imo. Nothing is left to the imagination anymore. At the end of the day, we're all "real" people. Doesn't mean we have to get all up in people's business. Destroys the mystique. Let the stars be stars, and everybody else ("reality hounds", paparazzi, etc.).....let the STARS be STARS! lol

Well, I've seen Joan Crawford's porno (partly obscured, but you can tell it's her, playing the rusty trombone)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0406632/

...and we know she wasn't "Mother Of The Year"

...and she most definitely wasn't racist. Her last radio broadcast was a commercial for the United Negro College Fund.

http://www.legendaryjoanc...odays.html

And I love her!!!

I love her because she was so flawed and demented and passionate and beautiful. I love the fact that she was never not Joan Crawford - even in front of her family and friends.

The only real J.C. who has ever mattered...

Harlepolis

My two fave...

Bette Davis could've done a "mute lady" role in her sleep, and still have the upper hand. Her eyes can do ALL the work, def the most expressive actress I could think of.

And this is my FAVE actor...

We know that now. The fact that we didn't know it then is a testament to the power of the studios.

There were rumblings of "friction" between her and Christina years before her death; but admittedly, it was after she was was outside the studio system.

This is an interview with Christina that was published in Redbook magazine, in 1960:

It's fascinating.
