I came out in '89 so it was a very memorable year for me. I was working at the Virgin Megastore on Oxford St (London),and for the first time in my life in an environment where it was fine and dandy to be a bit of a bender biggrin . Discovering gay bars and clubs for the first time. I had my first fag-hag whose name was Karen, and my first boyfriend, name Mathew. Out every night with a great bunch of friends from all sorts of countries and walks of life. Finally life had become what I always suspected it could be in this wonderful city.

Muscially it was all about Batman and Like A Prayer and Disintegration at the beginning of that period, but by the end it was all Madchester (Stone Roses, Jesus Jones, James, Happy Mondays...) Lots of gigs, lots of beer, lots of men, and lots and lots of laughs. Happy Days. biggrin

We would have gotten a long swell.

I still plan on getting your long one to swell regardless of the year wink

Ah the good old days.

I was 12 in 1989 so I remember Batman alot. It was around this time that I really got into Prince because of the Batman soundtrack (although I had Purple Rain). Musically, I remember this as the last of the glory days for the Big Three (Madonna, MJ, and Prince), so as a kid thatloved pop/rock/dance music, I enjoyed the time very much.

It was also a lousy time because of moving. I remembered leaving Miami, where I loved to move to Atlanta (which I hated, but grew to love). Talk about culture shock. By this time in my life, I had already moved from Brooklyn, Los Angeles, Ocala (FL), Ft. Lauderdale, and then Miami. It messes with your head to some degree because you never feel quite settled.

graduated HS in '89...

tried to enlist but failed the psyche evaluation (go figure, they didn't want me driving tanks!) found out shortly thereafter that my armored battalion was the first one to be sent to Iraq War 1... talk about dodging a bullet!!

The rest of the time I meandered through college while selling cars, formal wear and motorcycles (not in that order) while enjoying choice hallucinogens and the works of Carlos Castaneda in my free time...

graduated High school, moved out on my own, worked my butt off at a huge mail order pharmacy, partied, went to rock concerts....good times.\ biggrin

I was in a long term relationship. Not a great time for me. 8 years of crash and burn. BUT I learned a whole hell of a lot.

Never. hmph!

And I was either in school or gainfully employed (or both) except for a total of about a year during all that time.
