1989-1991

I have no idea why I am obsessed with this time period. I was just a fetus pretty much, entering preschool, but everytime i think of the past, this time frame is where my mind automatically goes. I remember little things, like the music, the clothes ( those ugly hammer/gym pants and hot florescent colors) and growing my rat tail. ( my cousin cut it off in 92. still mad about it)

I guess im aasking what was goin on in yalls lives during that period.

as lame as it is

SO WHAT WAS GOIN ON WIT YALL?!! eek

I love that period too LOL. I was 4-6 years old then, so alot of my first memories belong to that period.

Ninja turtles, Bart Simpson, Tiny Toons, Michael jacksons "dangerous" album, Hammer, Vanilla ice.

Alot of music video's and films tended to be lit "darker" then. Dark in atmosphere aswell maybe? Dark is the way it was shot LOL. Lots of dancing down backstreets at night LOL. Even thw Ninja turtles movie was pretty dark considering the tv series. And "Grafitti bridge" along with "batman" and "dick tracy" of course, seemed almost entirely filmed at night. Just a vibe I get lol

1991 i was 13 years old, i became a prince fan, i had to sneak out to buy prince's "diamonds and pearls" cassette tape, i hid it in my room and listened to it with earphones for weeks before my parents discovered it. lol then they called the pastor of our church over to give me a talk about how evil, and nasty prince was and how listening to his music was going to send me down the wrong path in life. God that just made me love prince more, lol i couldn't wait to get more of his stuff! and the "get off" video was on MTV every 2 seconds back then! awww....the good ol' days! lol dancing jig

This was my coming out period. I had some wonderful times partying because it was a scene I had denied myself of for so long and it is brand new to me. I also had some horrible times too because since it was brand new to me, I was naive to the dangerous side of it (not dangerous as in diseases but dangerous in discovering what hustlers and rough trade were).

graduated HS in '89...

tried to enlist but failed the psyche evaluation (go figure, they didn't want me driving tanks!) found out shortly thereafter that my armored battalion was the first one to be sent to Iraq War 1... talk about dodging a bullet!!

The rest of the time I meandered through college while selling cars, formal wear and motorcycles (not in that order) while enjoying choice hallucinogens and the works of Carlos Castaneda in my free time...

Graduated from college in '89, started working in a private school, but didn't make enough money, so I also still worked at the mall.
Quit the mall job in Dec, '91 to help my Mom take care of my grandfather, who died Jan. 2, 1992.

I came out in '89 so it was a very memorable year for me. I was working at the Virgin Megastore on Oxford St (London),and for the first time in my life in an environment where it was fine and dandy to be a bit of a bender biggrin . Discovering gay bars and clubs for the first time. I had my first fag-hag whose name was Karen, and my first boyfriend, name Mathew. Out every night with a great bunch of friends from all sorts of countries and walks of life. Finally life had become what I always suspected it could be in this wonderful city.

Muscially it was all about Batman and Like A Prayer and Disintegration at the beginning of that period, but by the end it was all Madchester (Stone Roses, Jesus Jones, James, Happy Mondays...) Lots of gigs, lots of beer, lots of men, and lots and lots of laughs. Happy Days. biggrin

I was 6 for the most part of 1989 (turned 7 in September), but what I remember most about that time period ('89-'91) was Michael Jackson. My mom is an extreme MJ fan and all I heard during this time period was the "Bad" album. I guess that's why it's my favorite album of his over all. Plus MJ was everywhere, always on the news regarding his tour, music videos and award shows. I remember seeing a lot of dance/club type songs "Everybody, Everybody" by Beatbox, and the Soul II Soul classics "Keep on Moving", "Back to Life", let's not forget Madonna and her "Express Yourself" and "Vogue" vids....and I remember the movies that came out during this time, "New Jack City", "The Five Heartbeats", "House Party", "Pretty Woman", and "Terminator 2". nod This era was definitely a fun one for me as a kid.

I was in the Air Force...

I was a skinny kid...big dreams....wore my heart on my sleeve....

During that time I was also sent to Desert Storm....and at the end of '91 got married.... disbelief

Actually in retrospect, that wasn't a very pleasant time in my life at all...maybe one of the worst 2 year periods ever for me... hmmm
