Smoke haze For those of you that don't know, Australia is currently on fire. There are literally bush fires everywhere.
I live and work in Melbourne and woke up today to a city enveloped in smoke from the fires, which has blown over the city due to the prevailing northerly winds. Our capital city, Canberra is under attack from bushfires and 400 houses were lost on the weekend. Four people have been found dead with more suspected. Our fellow orger, althom, lives in Canberra and has been lucky enough to avoid having his house burn down but the fires were very close. BTW, it's about 38 celcius (over 100 degrees farrenheit) here today with gusty winds. Where is the freakin rain? When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

I'm not in any danger as i'm near the centre of Melbourne and no bush fire can get this deep, but it's a real worry to people in the country and on the outskirts of the major cities, especially in Canberra and Sydney.
I feel for them because I lived in the country with my folks in the early 80's and was evacuated due to the "Ash Wednesday" bushfies. Luckily at that time our house survived. I can tell you it is very scary when all you can see is a big red glow through the thick smoke, and the incredible "roar" that the fire makes. It's no fun. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

I heard about Canberra. That is horrible.
Are these the same fires that have been going on for months?

Are these the same fires that have been going on for months? Not exactly the same ones. But it just seems that when one is finished, another starts up.

I think bkw should get all his drinking pals together all douse the local countryside with their lifetime supply of beer, thus drowning out the raging fires, saving the country and becoming heros!!
Or ya could just have a barby and get pissed. One or the other...
