I bought some lipsticks from a Clarins counter that smelled, and certain shades of Mac lipstick smell to me.

Lawd I forgot about Clarins.
Did you at least bring them back before using? Please say yes. pray
You should just be sure and smell 'em before you take them home.
I remember how it sucked losing commission on returns.

Yes I did, they refunded my cash easily, but I got an rolleyes in the process. LOL

What difference does that make? They throw it away anyway and most reputable lines will take it back even if it's almost used up.

Aww...lol Don't be too harsh on them. hug

At least you didn't use the product (not that that would affect their commission).

I remember someone returning a foundation with just a few drops left in the bottle talkin bout "Ooh I'm allergic." I was like "Wow, it must have been just awful (johnart opens bottle and tries to shake a few drops out boxed) suffering all this time. Lemme refund your money. smile"

It doesn't make a difference to the commission of the salesperson. A return is a return. It's just tacky to use up a product and return it unless it's defective or there is a legitimate issue.

I can't speak for all dept stores but Macy's used to only toss used products. If something came back unused they put it back on the shelf.

I have vietnam-vet type flashbacks of tacky ass women purchasing items for a free gift (or better yet, having their daughters or some relative get some too) and bringin the shit back (minus the gift of course) the next day or week. Or people using some shit up for wedding pics and trynna return everything with some lame ass excuse.

Your immediate manager will want you to try and not take shit back, but if the customer pushes, then they (or the store manager) will throw you under and make you look a bitch by taking the items back anyway.

You could mark that shit on a calendar.
Sometimes they'd ask and sometimes...and I kid you not...they'd just come up to the counter, spin the foundation carousel, find their shade, PULL OUT THE DAMN MINI BOTTLE OUT THEY PURSE, fill it and be on their way.

Till next week. neutral

LOL.. naw I worked in the mall so walked by the stores daily.. all those chicks knew me, so I returned my stuff the very next day. I know they talked about me though.. but my girl worked the Bobbi counter so racked up on samples and bought brushes/make up from her exclusively so she could make goal if she had a slow week.

Bobbi and Mac throw away unused product. I've seen them do it. I've returned stuff after using it a long time cuz sometimes it takes a while for an adverse reaction to happen or figure out what's causing it. For example, I noticed my skin tingled and got itchy when I used the Bare Minerals makeup and it took months for me to realize that it wasn't the make up but it was the brushes that they include that you have to use to apply it. I developed an allergy to whatever type of animal hair they use in their brushes and they had to send me a synthetic brush. Or it may take awhile to determine that a color doesn't work on you. A delayed return is not always due to tacky reasons shrug

Any recommendations for a really good thickening and volumizing mascara? My lashes are getting sparse due to a thyroid problem sad , and I've been trying to find a mascara that will thicken them up, but so far I haven't found anything too great.

I've read online some rave reviews for Lancome's Hypnose Drama mascara. Does anybody have any opinions on that?

Try Maybelline Full N Soft, or maybe Volum'Express. I prefer Full N Soft though.

I used Neutrogena pressed powder for a base (I don't wear foundation), and their sun-kissed bronzer for color on my cheeks.

Most of my eyeshadows and other blushes are Stila. Except the last two times I went to Sephora to get my Chinois and brown shadow (Puppy?) they were out, so I had to go with some other random brand because I wanted as close to those as I could get. I use Stila Smudge Pot for my eyeliner, too. I wear the same make-up look pretty much every day; when I go out at night I might add a little color or drama.

I love Maybelline for mascara (except their Great Lash). My favorite is Full N Soft, although I have Volum'Express, Lash Expansion and at least two other kinds I can't remember. I have nice, long eyelashes so I'm always trying new mascaras.

I have a ton of lip glosses/sticks from Stila, Aveda, etc. but I never wear them. I find that if I wear anything on my lips, I lick them more and then they get chapped. I should try to wear more lipstick/gloss; it makes one's look more polished. I just don't have time/interest to reapply throughout the day.

I mean, I've had ladies be tight on their budget and so they bough a lipstick and liner (or whatever) and I gave them a few bottles of foundation so it would last them a bit and they came back to buy it when they could. I have no issue with that.

But to just use the samples as your own steady self-serve supply. lol

That's the one! My mom used to use that when I was younger. I think it makes your eyelashes clump together and look thin. I like fat eyelashes. batting eyes

Okay, I do that all the time when I have special events. During All Star weekend I had my face done at the Bobbi Brown counter at Nordstrom's Friday, twice on Saturday, and on Sunday. BUT I schedule appointments with my makeup artists in advance AND I tip plus buy tons of product all the time. Besides, I come in with my foundation and cheeks done and just have them do my eyes. batting eyes

My homegirl was a Bobbi Brown makeup artist and she told me this is what they are there for since they don't make commission anyway. Also, it's how they get clients for side gigs. The girl who does my makeup also does Mark Cuban's wife makeup. He owns Dallas' basketball team and is a billionaire. So, I'm getting Shelly on the discount. lol

Now MAC, them bustas have a minimum $50 purchase to get your face done. talk to the hand
