Ashy skin and skin healing

Darker skinned folks in particular, do you have any recommendations for good lotions and creams to prevent ashy skin, and also for scar removal (fading?) or to assist in healing skin? Something relatively affordable since we're not about to go to Tibet and milk a unicorn or anything like that. lol

And no skin whitening products please!

Any good stuff you've found that works well? smile

It ain't for me, people. I already know my skin is fucked thanks to SCNDLS' thoroughly depressing and informative posts on that 'black don't crack' thread. neutral

It's funny that you brought this up cuz just last week I was struggling with how dry my skin has been lately because of the unusually cold, dry winter we've had in Dallas this year. My normal Kiehl's moisturizer just wasnt getting it.

So I started doing my research and was preparing to drop a grip on some fancy, schmancy cleansers, moisturizers and toners (often ashy/dry skin is not just from lack of moisture but also because your cleanser/soap is actually drying your skin out). While searching I came across Cetaphil online and decided to give their moisturizer and cleanser a try. I am officially in love with this stuff.

After one use, the dry areas on my cheeks disappeared. The next day, I went to buy some new makeup, and the makeup artist who's done my face before said, "What are you using on your skin??? It feels like a baby's butt." I took that as a compliment. That was only after 2 uses, so needless to say Cetaphil is my SHIT!!! I use it on my hands and feet and keeps me well de-ashed. Plus, it's really inexpensive and available at a drugstore. thumbs up!

Interesting. hmmm We'll see if we can find it. Might be tricky here though. My wife needs it for body more than face (which is on the oily side so drying out a bit from soap is no bad thing).

What? lol

This is so ironical cuz JUST yesterday I was in a meeting and this lady was telling us about this new weight loss regimen she's doing. There were 3 black women and 2 white women in the room. The lady doing the weight loss thing was black and she was describing all the things she had to do and how strict the diet was.

THEN she said, "BTW I can't use any lotions or creams on my body."

White women's reaction: shrug

Black women's reaction: eek omg whofarted shake omfg stfu "Fuck that, we'd rather be fat than ashy." hmph!

They sell this internationally, most of the pics I found online were in Chinese or some Asian language. If you get that big tub of moisturizing cream you can put it all over your body.

Secondly, I knew I shouldn't be putting that on my face cuz I was scared it would break me out, but I was sooo desperate. Chile, I was dancing a jig after using the Cetaphil. It saved me $100 easily. dancing jig

lol My wife has a myriad of body lotions, foot creams, smoothing lotions and whatnot, but they're not working all that well. I'm thinking there's probably better stuff on the market than what she has.

Now, you just trynna fry your ass wearing cocoa butter outside in the summer. lol

I'm not sure since I just started using it last week. But it doesn't have that lardy composition like cocoa butter. I think it would be fine. It's amazingly thick but disappears into your skin immediately. I've been using it as a hand cream (my hands are notoriously ashy) and it works great! thumbs up!

Cool. I'm going to look for it in Watson's and places like that. Is Watson's an American chain? Maybe Boots might have it?

How about specifically for scars and healing the skin quicker? My wife's such a monkey, a real all-action tomboy, and she gets scrapes and scratches all the time (she's kinda clumsy too), and the marks take months to fade and sometimes never disappear. There's a long 3 or 4 inch mark on her arm where she grazed herself falling down that after 2 years is still faintly visible.

I've never heard of Watson's but I've seen Cetaphil in other countries because the manufacturer is a Swiss company. No worries Fauxie, your "wife" will be silky smooth in no time. nod

I love that, Aquaphor and for me as a personal preference because of my tendency to get hyperpigmentation from clogged pores (bacne) I use 100% coconut oil (refined) to mix with a lotion.

The coconut oil absorbs deeply and helps my dark spots to fade fast.
