I feel like there was some Simpsons episode where they talked about a certain animal that had to be scared to death in order for it's meat to taste right.

But I hate when animals still look like themselves on your plate. Pigs, especially, are gruesome to me. I don't really eat pork, though, that is one thing I can't shut out of my brain when eating ham.

ham comes from the ham tree

so how do you explain the hambone?

I suppose it would make good business sense. nod

I always just cram my bowl with olives. It means I get maximum value from my salad as I reckon they're the most expensive items in there.

Look up "Live Sushi" on youtube.
Or "Fish cooked alive" on youtube.

Unbelievable. The live Sushi videos actually have western folks
eating from the fish and saying, "awww, poor thing"

The fish cooked alive one is just too awful for words. Apparently,
there's a dish in Singapore (and parts of mainland China) in which
fish are gutted (still alive), and deep fried (only the body--the
head is kept above the hot oil) while still alive. Then
served to it's customers right away, as the fish remains alive
for part of the meal---some say the fish is already dead and
only having involuntary muscle reactions but I don't believe
that shit.

Even WORSE than that was a video I saw once, that took place in China.

They took a cat...alive of course...put a noose around its neck, then dipped it in scalding hot water for a few turns. They pulled the poor thing out (still semi-conscious) and skinned it alive.

I changed the channel at that point (couldn't take it anymore) so I can't tell you what they did to it after that.
