picking out which animal you want killed so you can eat it

i am full-fledged carnivore, but i don't think i could pick an animal out (like a lobster in the tank) and then eat it.

I could pick a lobster. But I couldn't pick a cow. I'm somewhere in between a lobster and a cow on this.

Well, yeah. But it's not as if you could eat a whole cow by yourself, anyway. lol

I don't know...if you give me a challenge like "Eat the whole cow and your meal is free," I might be willing to give it a shot.

Lobster, cow, chicken, sheep, salmon, tuna, I could pick it out. Dispatch it even.

I'm a meat-eater too, but I'd feel better about it if I was actually hunting and killing the animal myself. There's something shameful about having someone else do all the dirty work,

I've never had to, nor do I have any desire to give it a try, but I reckon I could probably dispatch an animal if I was going to make a meal out of it.

But

I couldn't do it if I had known the animal was someone's pet. It may be arbitrary, but IMO there's a difference between friends and dinner when it comes to animals.

hmmm

Now you're onto something...!

There's a small chain of local restaurants here called ZORN'S (BBQ & fried chicken) that used to allow you to go out back and pick out which chicken you wanted to eat for dinner.

I think the time is ripe for a restaurant where you can pick out which cow or pig you want slaughtered for your BBQ.

I've actually done this before. When I was a young child, my grandfather kept a few chickens more or less as pets. He would buy them as biddies (baby chicks) and raise them for eggs. One Sunday morning, my grandmother wanted me to go out to the chicken coop and pick one out for Sunday dinner. I got one, brought it back to her, and stood there as she cut its head off. I ate some of it at dinner, but it didn't taste quite right. When I got older, it didn't bother me to eat game that I had killed, though.

Ok so it is ok to eat meat as long as you are prepared to kill it yourself? Excellent....I have no problem with that. biggrin
