...a convicted child molester?

In 1997, when I lived in Minneapolis, and then St. Paul, I dated a slightly older guy. He was about 51, and I was around 29. Quite a diff, but at the time, it seemed to work. Looking back, I could have done a LOT damn better.

But it didn't last long. He told me at one point, near the end of it all, that he was a convicted child molester. !!!! What teh FUCK?! I told the other house mates (he had a huge house and rented out the other rooms in the house), and they all practically fled within a month's time. I left within that time period. I only talked to him once or twice since then, and it was online only.

Tonight I decided to see if I could find him on Facebook or something, just to see what the old codger looked like. I didn't find him there, but I did find him here.

I about hurled. I can't believe he went BACK to prison for that shit, and ....well, that he did it again, at all. I believe that some offenders can be truly rehabilitated, but this guy is chronic! It's the one regret I have in life - dating this guy for even the short time I did. It was cleansing to write about all this in my book, and get it out, and off, of me.

I'm shocked, but I'm not, at this update.

what would I do...probably vomit like a MILLION times.
as for the bolded part....you really can't believe it? you really believe that some offenders can be truly rehabilitated? really? I don't.

Wait a minute . . . you went through the trouble of saving all this porn on disks AFTER finding out he was a pedophile with the "plan" to contact the police yet you didn't do anything with it??? whofarted If he was already a convicted pedophile he would've been in violation of his parole/probation by merely possessing child porn and would've hopefully been put back in jail.

Yeah, it may have caught up with him eventually but I wonder how many kids were unnecessarily molested since '97 that didn't need to be if you had contacted the police with this evidence.

Once he knew that I knew he still had child porn, I felt it was a very dangerous situation for me to be in. It's why I left quite quickly, as did the other house mates. I'm not totally believing he was molesting anyone while I was there, but sure he could have done it after. He obviously did and got caught 8 years after the fact, because we see his arrest record in this thread.

I don't have a problem calling the police on a child molester. I called the cops on a very near and close family member in 1992, for molesting my stepbrother for 10 years. (In fact, the police and DHS came out to investigate and eventually arrest this person on the 16th birthday of my stepbrother.) He went to prison for a couple of years (he was sentences to two four-year sentences, running concurrent instead of consecutively).

I also don't know if one of the other house mates eventually called the cops on him or not. They could have. It was a desperate situation for me, and I had to cover my butt at the time and protect myself.

I meant that I can't believe he was repeating his crimes after serving time once (at least) already to the point that I had met him. Yes I do believe some offenders can be rehabilitated. Some, like this guy, cannot - outside of God swooping down and spankin' his backside Himself.

However, hindsight and such - I can see that perhaps I'm not that surprised because he really does have that dark side to him, and unless he's chemically castrated, or jailed for life, he'll always be battling whether to do it or not.

I get that it was a dangerous situation for you but you said you planned to report him to the police after moving out. I'm just curious as to why you didn't in THIS case after you got out, especially after seeing he possesed porn with 5 year olds performing sexual acts?

That alone is illegal and definitely in violation of his parole, presuming he was on parole/probation for the earlier offense he told you about.. Why would it matter if you knew he wasn't molesting anyone at the time and why save the porn, then not do anything with it?? If he was already a convicted pedophile AND was in possession of disgusting child porn, he's OBVIOUSLY not rehabilitated and needed to have his sorry ass in jail.

Yeah, it was already a bad situation. But it took a new turn when ernest mentioned he found kiddie porn and didn't disclose it. doh!

ernest, I think you made a mistake by not IMMEDIATELY turning the porn over to the cops, but you can't go back and fix things. Just be glad this dude got caught and consider that you've learned something from the situation.

I know all that. I just needed to get out of the situation. Once I got here to New York, my attachment to it all drifted quickly. Living in a new place proved to be a good, and big, distraction. I was also, at the time, still scared of him to some extent. He would have known who called the cops about him possession porn. I suppose possessing it is somewhat less than engaging in it. The one real thing I do regret is that I SAW the porn video. The human mind is geared to never really forget anything (it's just all about being able to access what is there). Unfortunately, that is something I'll just never be able to forget.

While I can see that, I suppose until you're in that sort of volatile situation, you can't fully understand the actions of another. there is nothing to say that hasn't been said already. Your only real regret is that you saw kiddie porn.

The act itself, I think is illegal, irrespective of who downloaded it.
I recall a case of cop who was convicted who said he was only doing 'research' to catch molesters . . .

I understand you're not judging. I'm not ashamed of anything I did.

As I stated in another post, I called the law for this very thing (sans the internet porn because there was no internet) on a very, VERY close family member. I don't regret that either. That family member later asked me, "Why didn't you come to me first? You act like you don't regret it." I told them I didn't. I didn't do anything wrong, they did, and if I had to do it all again, I'd not change a thing.

There was no kid to help at that point. The porn came from someone else who forwarded it down the line. When I saw the email it was attached to originally, it had been forwarded quite a bit. I didn't put it into my email because I didn't want that on my paper trail, to avoid confusion. I sure wasn't an offender, and didn't want to be confused for one.

I understand your feelings, and I am with you on it. I'm bolder now and would call the cops in a hot second on something like this. Back then, I was younger, and more easily swayed.

I'd like to acknowledge the fact that you brought this out in the open. Fear is a major motivator and I understand why a younger you acted as you did. I think the judgment in this thread is misguided.

I can understand people's view on it, and I agree to some extent. I can't fault them for expressing what they think they would have done. But it's also why I gently said that until someone is in that situation, no one can truly say "I'd do this this, and this." It's a tough place to be, believe it.

I believe it. I grew up around a lot of violence and I remember what fear is like. Hindsight is 2020 and everyone who has been victimized is angry. I understand that. I just wanted to acknowledge you is all.
