The org can take up a lot of time for some of us. Do you think that it's because you're missing something in the way of human interaction in your real life and the org (or internet in general) helps to fill it?

I know that sounds negative so I'll start by admitting that I think that's the case for me!

I'm surrounded by people all the time, but I feel lonely, and there is some socializing that is just easier to do with strangers. I've always been quiet, I don't think I've had as many conversations in my life as I have had here.

Maybe it's not just loneliness, but the internet actually offers a format that real life interactions can't.

when i was single i used to come here because i was lonely. now i come because all of you here make me laugh, and are a great bunch of people! i'm not much of a social person, i'm VERY shy and a loner. i think i'm like this because i'm an only child? i'm just used to staying to myself and not being the center of attention. i don't get depressed or lonely if i'm not around friends or other people all of the time.

I used to be lonely and I would come here to try to fill a void but sometimes the org was no substitute for human interaction. Now, I come here less and am less lonely in real life. With the drama that comes attached to relationships and some of my friendships, I enjoy my solitude more and more everyday.

I was recently talking to my brother about how we interact with people & don't seem to have a lot of friends, just a few close ones.

We both seem to be friendly and people seem to like us, but we notice not going to the parties, not having a bunch of friends, etc. But that seems to be our own doing. We get along with people, but seem to put up a wall when the next step comes. We keep people at arm's length.

So maybe the org & net are ways to interact with many people but still have the protection of not letting people get too close.
