Size 4 is the New Fat

These nutjobs who run the fashion industry are living in a different universe. WTF are they thinking?

disbelief @ this comment:

This is only because **** run the modelling industry and they are disgusted by womens bodies that's why they shove the one eyed snakes up their bums! A real woman should have curves and these bone smugglers are the ones who are making women feel fat then we have to listen to our girls or wives **** and complain. REAL MEN LIKE CURVES. Gay guys are NOT real men. They should have rights and all, but they are a different species from the rest of us.

disbelief The only way I could fit into a size 4 would be if I were anorexic and did nothing but drink water all day. Then people wonder why some young girls are so self-conscious about their weight, and why some young girls wind up with eating disorders. Stuff like this is making them think they have to look like these super skinny models in order to be loved and accepted. That is soooo not true. disbelief

I am definetly NOT saying size 4 is the new fat, believe me I'm not. I didn't even click on the link.

But I've noticed that sizes are diff than they were at some stores....(not big name ones, I'm poor so bear with me) but anyways, I've noticed the sizes, like lets says a 4 now, fits more like a 6. KWIM?

I agree... the standard in sizing has gone up. You can really see it in children's clothing. The toddler sizes are bigger than they used to be.

Well, I agree with some points... but only the women that are insecure would get jealous of what other women have. And yes, women still have a long way to go as far as pulling away from some of these misogynistic rules of society as to what makes a woman "beautiful". If we as a whole didn't buy into this mentality, they wouldn't do what they do.

Superficial

Its no wonder so many people get fucked up with body issues . I know a lot of it is down to the designers themselves but its just wrong IMO

A US size 4 is a UK size 6 which is tiny , a UK size 6 is industry standard for models. A UK size 6 would equate to approx 23/24 inch waist

My waist is 28 1/2"-29", and I wear a size 4 in Victoria's Secret jeans...even a 2 a couple times in their pants.

Yet in other brands of clothing, I need a size 6 at least, sometimes even 8. VS reeeeallly goes nuts with the vanity sizing.

As vitriolic and stupid as this is....I agree with the sentiment.

Even in the real world, at least in my experience, the first people to call a normal, healthy woman fat are gay men. Not straight men, not other women. Gay men.

A high proportion of fashion designers (not to mention model recruiters) are also gay men. The fashion industry has, for a very long time now, dictated not only an unrealistic body type but a dangerously unhealthy one as the ideal. IMO it's hard to think there might not be a connection.

I think we need to be careful in discussions like these not to fall into the "real women have curves" trap. Real women come in ALL sizes.

seriously, when healthy skinny women get comments like barf it seems no better than saying same thing about a bigger woman. It makes me wonder how any woman could exist without a body image complex--gross when fat, gross when thin. shake

You knowwwww how I feel about that!! I could go on alllll day about it. It's pretty sad my 4 yr old daughter already asks me questions about body stuff. And I'm EXTREMLY cautious wat I say around her. I've had to have countless conversations with her already about how EVERYONE is beautiful and there are all differnt types of beauty not just one.

I'll be getting ready for work at times and shell tell me I look pretty and I know I look like shit but instead of saying that I'll say thank you daisy I do look pretty don't I?

Ur last line ndru.....brittney spears is a prime example

yeah we have talked about it before because I think both you & I have gotten negative comments about being "too skinny." Even though we are not, it's still doesn't feel good to be openly insulted, does it?

Yup. The dude I was seeinng was constantly telling me I looked anorexic n that he hated it. And I felt like I had to defend Myself all the time. I quit drinking protein back in June and that topped with stress I did start looking a little skeletal. But then I thought WHY am I defending myself????? It's not like it was purposley done and WHY he thought it was OKAY to say that I do not know!!
