Does anyone sew anymore? I need to shorten two simple curtain panels, and I'm embarrassed to say I may have to pay someone to do it. I can, say, put a button back onto a shirt, but that's about it. Made me wonder who (particularly males) sews anymore?
I know Genesia sews, but what others of you know how to sew? Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Ex-Moderator | I can stitch anything by hand for small jobs, but I’d need practice to be any good with a machine again. I got one a few years ago and I used it to take in a dress, but I didn’t do the best job. I ended up throwing the dress out.
I’ve been thinking about taking a class to get myself back into the swing of things. I really should… |

I know how to sew. (I was in 4H as a kid.) My mom used to sew clothes and Halloween costumes for me and my brother when we were younger. I haven't sewn since high school though. I wish I had a sewing machine for easy stuff like curtains (last time I had a two different tailors alter some curtains and they both fucked up. I mean, how hard is it to make two panels from one large panel, especially when I wrote down exact measurements?! ) But fabric, patterns, notions, etc. are SO expensive that unless you make multiple versions of something you could probably buy it for roughly the same price. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

PunkMistress wants a sewing machine like crazy.
I'll probably get her one for her birthday along with a membership to http://nofauxxx.com/. She asked for both.

Thanks for the responses. Aside from pippet (Hey you! ), seems sewing is somewhere in our collective background... but we don't generally practice.

I sew. I had stitched a quilt back in 2002/2003. Took me about 5 weeks. It's a patchwork type quilt, but it's not the typical Americana type patch work that you'd see. I went with a sage green, and three different white fabrics, and the squares are actually rectangular. The backing is a darker green. I still use it. I also made the curtains in my bedroom, and in the living room.

I've been sewing since I was 11. I made my first pair of pants with a zipper and wore them to school. I had my own business in South Carolina. I made prom dresses, choir robes, mens's tuxes, curtains, children's clothes...then I started designing and sewing for fashion shows.
I don't have much time to sew now as much as I used to, but I still make my own clothes when I can't find a certain style that I want. I still do alterations too. I'm kicking my own ass right now for not coming up with the "snuggie" idea and becoming filthy rich. "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack

It'd be fine for a pantry curtain that I want to do, as no one would really notice the hem near the floor. But for a panel I have hanging in our bedroom window, will the glue not be conspicuous when light filters through the curtains? Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου
