I think that's the thing though--In American Asian always means 'yellow' Asians--not the red, brown, and olive variety. I remember somebody getting really pissed at me a few years ago about a conversation I had when they referred to Asians and they meant 'Indians', and being American, I didn't see Indians as "Asian' because I was thinking of the yellow variety. Thus, when I realized what they meant, it was like we were talking past each other the entire time.

My view of what Asian is has expanded by leaps and bounds, along with my appreciation for the differences in nationalities and ethnic backgrounds just in the last 2 months alone.

Is it just me or is this shitty thread crashing the org? All the other threads open except this one.

There's such a variety in appearance of Thai people. It's something to behold. I really do think that a lot of people who've never been here imagine Thais just all look Chinese or something (and of course those familiar with China would be saying 'there's one Chinese look??'. I'd actually say Mon's parents look about the closest thing to what you could call an average Thai if you absolutely had to.



Even then, there are noticable variations in appearance and skin colour in just this family alone, not to mention New's khmer-looking aspects. He's against all odds going to be in a boyband if only we can keep him out of the sun.

I had such western eyes before I came here. Now I can almost immediate spot the differences, though the Burmese look Thai to me still.

I've come to realize I can't tell the difference between German, Russian and northern French white folks though.

I can pretty easily spot the difference between a black African and a black American though. The facial features have change quite a bit in the short time Africans have been in the USA, I would imagine through mixing.

The world is neat.

Another guy that won't be there is golfer John Cook, one of Woods' closest friends (well OK - Woods doesn't have friends, so I guess Cook is an associate). Woods invited Cook and Cook told him to fuck off.

Woods wouldn't take Cooks' calls over the last three months - he wouldn't take anyone's calls. So Cook was offended when after three months of blowing him off, Woods now wants his appearance as a sign of support.
