Any roommate stories?

I'm thinking of getting a roommate...not fully sure yet, but does anyone have any horror stories or some good stories of having a roommate.

I had a roommate who was a friend prior to us moving in together. Overall it went well and I would probably do it again. It had its bad points of course. Her kids made my dining room set look like shit. She broke my $200 lamp and didn't offer to pay for it. And they sort of monopolized my TV. Also we talked before moving in together about rules we'd both like set, which is a good idea. The only problem is when it was my turn, the only thing I mentioned was the temperature in the apartment. I like my place in the mid 60's. She like's hers in the mid to upper 70's. We agreed to around 70 degrees. But she never held to that, though it was the only thing I showed any concern about. The house was always damn near 80 which for me is unbearable.

On the positive side, there was regularly someone to hang with when you didn't really have shit to do, bills were all split so I saved a lot. In the end, she and I became better friends. I guess that's what makes me okay with all my stuff being destroyed as I sweated to death.

This probably wasn't all that helpful.

The only roommate I ever had was a bisexual furry. Well, he called himself "bisexual", but I saw no proof of him having any interest in women at all. I think he also ran a furry chat on (m)IRC or something. This was at a dorm house about six years ago and I only stayed there for three months myself. He was quite depressed all the time and I really didn't know how to provide him with any advice on relationship issues. It was quite weird to be honest.

My sophomore year in college I had three roommates. It was a two room campus apartment and we all slept in the one bedroom. One night one of my roommates brought a girl home and had sex with her in the bedroom while I was asleep. At least he thought I was asleep. I heard everything.

The best story though is when the same roommate let a friend form his fraternity sleep over and the dude was so drunk that he got up in the middle of the night, walked out the bedroom past the bathroom and out the front door of the apartment. I thought that was a little strange, but nothing more until we all woke up the next morning after the guy had left and found a big pile of poop outside our front door. Apparently the dude was so drunk, he thought the front door was the bathroom and took a dump outside. My friend that lived in the apartment next to us (that shared the stairwell landing with the poop) stuck a sign in it that said "my name is Fred". We all laughed about it for days. lol

I've had a few roommates in the past...and I generally found its better to do so with somebody you're not friends with...it cuts down on any problems when it comes to money issues...

College guys are gross in general. Our kitchen floor had turned into one big garbage pile by the end of the year. When my family came to move me out of the dorm back home for the summer, my mum was horrified. lol

I've lived with about 12 different housemates over a time period of about 8 years.

Debbie - dumb as a post, had a dollar counter, would empty her boyfriend's pockets in it each night with an enormous clatter, then have a bath and be in bed by 8pm.

Harriet - not yet diagnosed with clinical depresseion cry was searching for her biological mother, if I could warn her now not to bother, it would ultimately lead to her spending the next 10 years in and out of psychiatric care.

Marcus - boff couldn't keep my hands off that one, we had no TV

Helen - british backpacker who worked in a bakery and vowed to return home skinny and suntanned (in 6 months achieved neither but did manage to flood the apartment with the washing machine)

Annalisa - totally mothered me, would ring me up at work and ask me what I wanted for dinner! No joke! Needless to say I just LOVED her love I had to learn some Italian for when her nonna would call up. Annalisa's sister Trish was my boyfriend at the time's housemate AND his other housemate Danielle was my workmate - INCESTUOUS!!!

Elle - moved from interstate at Annalisa's insistence, lasted 6 months with us. Annalise decided she hated Elle for some reason and drove her out. They fought like cats and dogs. Elle and I are still friends today.

Andrew - really nice guy. Kept going to Vietnam for some reason, turned out he'd fathered 2 kids over there! Had lots of Zippo lighters.

Alex - single dad with horrid ex and lovely 5 year old kid. Really nice guy, rarely home, the perfect housemate actually biggrin

Jorge - came home drunk 3 nights a week, recently divorced, went missing for a week without telling anyone - his parents, his job etc. We called the police.

Carolyn - also perfect housemate, spent months at a time at her boyfriend's place cross town, always paid rent on time. Had very thick hair though, and clogged the bath drain.

Leo - had to share a room with me mad took over the loungeroom with all his studio equipment! But he had a car woot!

Carly - Carolyn's niece. Studying to be a massage therapist - happily practised on me whenever I was home love she made the best soup and cleaned the house for a discounted rent woot!

Jason - the only bad housemate I ever had mad argumentative cheapskate. He had a wonderful cat though, that I loved to bits. He would bring girls home and then not speak to them the morning after lol they'd be sitting in the lounge waiting for him to wake up and shower, and he'd take off to work without even saying goodbye to them! disbelief one cried and I had to take her to the train station

I never did actually, I preferred the guys to the girls, generally they were easier to get along with, didn't try to be your best friend dead exhausting!!!

the first guy I ever lived with, was sent by the "flatmates" agency I joined up with. He came over and we both kind of went batting eyes and I accepted him on the spot redface I wish he could have stayed longer than 6 months bawl but he moved back to Western Australia after that to go back to his university course. He was also the only guy I ever lived alone with, the others were always in a shared household of up to 4 of us at any one time.

Along the same lines, I chose the friend/roommate that I did, rather than other friends who were looking for roommates, because I thought it would be better to room with a female so they wouldn't feel like we had to do everything together.

Plus being a mother, I felt like she'd probably be cleaner.

Oh, here we go...

Kathleen

When I first had my daughter, I moved in with her father. It was such a lovely surprise to find out that his roomate was his ex-girlfriend of 5 YEARS. Naturally, I was infuriated and almost lit the house on fire. Only to come to realize that she hated him, had her boyfriend there 75% of the time, and SNITCHED my baby daddy out on all the dirt he was doing and getting into to me. Haha. Dysfunctional household, yes. But we became friends.

Maria

I moved out of baby daddy's house, into my own apartment with my daughter. I had known Maria since we were young -- we always got into trouble together. She was pregnant, and having alot of problems where she was, so I let her move in with me. She had the baby while in my residence. Overall, she was an okay roomate; not quite as neat as I'd like, and her kid screamed alot, but it was alright. The only BIG problem that I had was the constant parade of men in and out... but we had some really fucking crazy times.

Joe

Joe stayed with me for a couple months; he's my baby daddy's play-brother. We were cool; he was here the same time Maria was. He basically just played video games all day and drank beer. He cleaned up after himself, went to work, and kicked it. Joe had to be the best roomate I had, aside from him being an occasional dumbass.

Knina

Knina was a girl I knew through people, but we became close. She was almost 30, with 2 kids, the girl being 10, and the son a newborn (ironically spawned from someone who I went to school with -- 18 years old!). One night at 2 AM, she showed up on my doorstep with a sob story and her crap. I couldn't STAND her daughter... like... if this were a 3rd world country, I would have murdered her and sold her as ground meat. Anyhow... things were okay for awhile, until she showed her true colors. She was a compulsive liar, manipulative, hypocondriac... who may very possibly be the one true Anti-Christ. She also basically moved in her friend without any permission from myself or the landlord! I had to have her formally evicted... and she's trying to sue me 'til this day over it.

Brittany & Dennis

I have known Brittany since I was about 8, and have maintained a pretty good friendship throughout the years. She showed up around the same time that Knina was living with me. She had been staying with her now-husband, Dennis, at his dorm in college, and then parents' house. They got put out, and ended up here. I told them "No", but ultimately ended up letting them stay. I had myself and my daughter, Knina and her kids and friend, all in my house at the same time... so Brittany and Dennis pitched a tent (literally) on my top balcony porch and lived in it. I couldn't make this shit up if I tried. My main issue with them is that Brittany is not hygenic enough to live with... I spent $100s on incense. Ughhh. Turns out she seriously needs some psychiatric medication as well... but her husband is a sweet guy. They moved out when it started to snow on their tent.

Just. Don't. Do. It. shake The end result? My apartment is type-fucked up and needs to be repaired in many ways. I went through alot of draining drama and agrivation... and lost friends through it. Not worth it.
