Have you ever tried too hard to impress someone?

Have you ever tried too hard to impress someone? Did it pay off or did you fall flat on your face?

A colleague of mine has offered to make the staff at my school and a sub branch breakfast burritos on Saturday morning. I have a feeling that he's bitten off more than he can chew (no pun intended). I hope it works out well.

No. I'm me. Take it or leave it. I'm not out to be an asshole, or an asskisser. Of course you have to put a good foot forward in a job interview or a a job, but in general I try to be a good guy without any grand standing.

i went to court today and the DA was in there with his junk all on the table. i guess he was full of himself cause he was making people pay left and right (and why the fuck would you offer options to make people pay, when you know most folks dont have that type money!!!) anyhow...when he saw me, the look on his face was like...who this chick think she is, so ..he tries to double talk me and i was like...no need sir, we can take that to trial ( on a traffic ticket)

that was good, huh???

is it considered trying too hard only if you fail to impress them?? or does it count if you succeed, too??

Most of the people I tried really hard to impress were directors. That always pays off. cool

Yeah I have. Initially it paid off, though it took a while. Things fell apart in the end though and I wish I had my money, time, energy, and thoughtfulness back.

I think everyone has at one point in their life or another.
But as for NOW, I'm just me... completely flawed and people can deal with it.
I don't try to impress people; if they don't like me the way I am, they aren't worth my time to begin with.

Yes, when I was younger I tried too hard to impress my bosses sometimes. I was immature and didn't realize how transparent I was when I was trying to sound smart.

lol

In retrospect it still makes me redface

Ottensen

Probably much more when I was younger. I went through a clique fascination phase in the last years of prep school...sort of like a bizarre cross between "Mean Girls" and "Heathers", maybe? The very few times I have done it in my career as an adult it has left me so empty and self-hating that's it's been a pretty long time since I've gone down that route and am pretty comfortable in the "Kiss My Ass" mode. Only once did I ever do it for a dude as an adult, with regret. Big mistake. Putting your best foot forward and being the best you can be is one thing, and I actually believe it's positive. But never reshape or re-mold yourself into what you don't believe is worthy or uplifting in to satisfy another. It happened once. I will never give in to that level of self-abasement again. Ever. This last maybe 12 years has been pretty smooth sailing, though. I am what I am butterfly heart butterfly
