I hope we still have it on DV tapes somewhere then it's OK, they last longer than DVDs anyway I think, and can be transferred to HD and then DVD anytime. the vcr has no remote or any light display on the front panel who would buy that, even for $5? you can't even sell a 34" CRT tv for that!

I live near Buffalo NY so you know we get a lot of wind storms coming in from Lake Erie. Once in a while we get some outages, usually only lasts for a few minutes Haven't had any signal problems yet this winter. We love Direct TV 4 years and no prublems at all. NDRU said: sextonseven said: I've always had cable so I never paid attention to the conversion announcements and have no idea what you're talking about. well that's what you pay for--peace of mind...and channels! I had to fill out an application, wait for a voucher card, go buy the thing (and the $40 voucher doesn't quite cover the cost, of course) and now I have a 4th remote control. All so I can get 4-5 channels over the air for free So the $40 voucher didn't cover the entire cost? That's damn rediculous. You shouldn't have to shell out one dime for a box when you didn't ask for the digital conversion being forced on everyone. That conversion pissed me off from day one because I knew I would eventually be affected by it. When I move in about a month or two, I'll have to go out and buy two converter boxes and two sets of rabbit ears because I won't be able to afford cable. And from what I hear from my brother and several other people who don't have digital TVs or cable, there's no middle ground with the converter boxes either. They all say the days of snow are gone. If a television station's signal is weak, at least with snow, you can still see the picture even if it isn't perfect. Everyone says if the signal is weak, you either get a blue screen or a frozen picture. That's just rediculous. Andy is a four letter word.

Direct TV. Don't like them. Terrible customer service, but I think everyone has had bad experience with every cable/satellite company. I used to have Cox Cable. I feel that I should mention that since I am on the org.

Comcast. I like it "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

We've had Directv for several years with very few problems regarding weather outtages. Usually, (at least where I live) it has to be a possible tornado producing weather situation to make us have even a brief picture freeze. IIrc the longest we've had to wait for weather related delays is about thirty minutes. No problems with customer service at all and technical assistance is available 24/7. Their customer service reps. are available until 1:00am(est). If you have a technical problem after that time the automated service tries to assist you and you'll have to use a few key words such as "snowy picture" or "no picture" so the automated system will transfer you to one of the techs. I've had to use it maybe twice in seven years. You've been very helpful with advice (punch em in the nose ) in org-notes and threads and I wanted to return the favor. I called to verify the customer and technical service information before posting in the thread. Hope your move goes well Ernest.

(Damn monopoly's) Same here. I almost switched to Fios triple play, phone, internet and cable, but when they said they would have to do some construction inside my basement, I said hell no. I kept Comcast. The only complaint I have is their billing cycle and the speed of the so called "high speed internet." I got spoiled at my job with instant page loading and such. At home, it's slow as molassas sometimes. I HATE that! But if you want a higher speed, you have to pay "higher fees." Greedy ass mofos!

Better than either Comcast or TimeWarner. good to know, because it will be coming to our area, and our internet is already att. Comcast sucks. We stopped cable because of their crap, not to mention cost.
