Just watched it, and seriously...what the hell was that? That was awful. I've been enjoying this season a lot, but Absolute Justice was a terrible episode. The Icicle killed THREE members of the JSA? (And not even the Icicle, but his son!) And one of the dead is Dr. Fate? Killed by the Icicle? And Geoff Johns wrote it that way?

I did have to laugh anytime they showed Dr. Fate in full. The actor playing him was like 5 feet tall and did NOT look good in the uniform.

Despite the fact that Tom Welling is about 45 years old and none of the show makes much sense, I still enjoy it a lot and think it has great potential. But last night's episode was just a terrible waste of a great opportunity.

Really though, I liked this episode more than most of the recent ones. I just wish they'd bring back some sense of continuity.

I know the creators have sworn by their "no flights, no tights" motto, but I think they may need to revamp that. The show doesn't adhere to ANY established comic continuity, so I wish they would just forge their own.

But didn't it seem to you that the first three seasons were more serialized? That's what I meant about the continuity. There was always a cliffhanger to be continued into the next week.

^I think that is partly the reason weve seen less Superman action and more JL the last couple of years. Welling seems to pulling back on the air time. Now that hes excutive producing and directing he seems to want to be more behind the scenes than in front of the camera.

What I mean is, the show is hindered by having to hew to DC's storyline and the Superman movies. DC forced the show to kill off Jimmy Olsen because the one on the show didn't fit in with the Jimmy established in comic or movie continuity. DC seems to think that Smallville will confuse viewers if it goes too far astray from what the public sees at the movies, which I think is silly and wrong.

That's an insane thought process on their part then, because everything about Smallville is opposite to the comics. For me, not a huge comic fan or reader, it was already confusing. Why does Lois see Clark WITHOUT glasses, because when Superman reveals himself, how will she be left in the dark about it? And what about Jimmy Olsen? He's an intricate part of things, yet now he's dead as a door nail. Lex Luther is all but gone as well, although I can see his return as a vengeful man coming.

What really slowed it down for me was the whole cave hieroglyphics and the prophecy of two brothers, one pitched against the other thing.

DC Comics shouldn't worry about Smallville, because those types that attend ComicCon, and are really into Superman lore KNOW the difference and know that Smallville isn't even considered part of any realistic Superman time line or universe.

The two big changes I've heard DC forced on the show were the death of Jonathan Kent (to match the movie continuity, because Superman Returns was coming out) and the death of Jimmy Olsen (at his funeral, they showed a young cousin named Jimmy, who would then grow up to be the Jimmy everyone knows).

Agree with you on the Lois questions and I have no idea where they're going with it. Remember when Superman kissed Lois Lane at the end of Superman II and magically gave her amnesia? Maybe they'll do something like that at the end of the series and just wipe out her memories. For me, the biggest problem with the movies was why Superman liked Lois Lane at all...she's always a huge bitch to him. That guy's got some serious issues if he's turned on by the way she treats him.

Lois just had the hots for Superman, but she tended to be more open with him than she did Clark Kent. He saw the good in her, but he obviously didn't trust her enough to reveal himself. She was a bitch to Clark. She needed a literal superman in her life, and Superman fit the bill, It seemed like a good setup because it showed that all the things she wanted in a man were always right in front of her the whole time.

So, kpowers...did you like the episode? I found it incredibly disappointing. I have to admit, I found Geoff Johns' Legion episode disappointing as well. Maybe he should stay away from Smallville.

I just dont think you should be looking for canon in smallville to begin with.

Though I thought the jimmy olsen death was a great lil twist, cause all through him being there I was like "jimmy was a kid when he was at the daily planet."
Also from what I know Chloe isn't even a part of superman, so she shouldn't exist, that going to be another fun twist when at the end they erase her from the storyline. I think overall they play well with constrants of the lore.
